Yes, but remember that at this point, Razorbeard is desperate. Here is an enemy that he once thought just another prisoner, safely locked away within the confines of his prison cells. Suddenly he manages to escape - okay, not too big a deal, but a bit of a nuisance, surely - but he soon appears to become quite the bother: now this escapee is releasing more of his prisoners and he is - wait, what? - he is getting his grubby little hands on the four ... no! He is getting his filthy paws on the Four Masks of Polokus! Surely, his most loyal lackey will be able to destroy him. One cannot simply outrun a hoard of Warships and elite Ninja Pirates - right? Right? Uhhh... surely he can't get all the way through the Iron Mountains and free all the other prisone-- surely he can't make his way through the Prison Ship and - well, shit. Apparently he's right at the door. The only possible outcome: a face-to-face confrontation with this monstrosity that has single-handedly defeated three/four elemental guardians at least five times his size and twelvefold his power, destroyed scores of his soldiers, smashed about every cage and barrier he put in his way and has now clambered through the depths of his hostile Prison Ship to end up right there by him.
He's bound to be nervous. And then he finally manages to kill him at last, only to be surprised he's still alive. Will nothing stop him? This is his first time piloting the Grolgoth, but surely he can figure out how it works. It stomps, it shoots, it pulls - okay, sure, that works fine, but it's not quite getting to him. Maybe a little bit more power will do it -- and then he accidentally destroyes the floor beneath his feet. Nowhere left to go but between three pillars overhanging a precariously placed lake of lava, he is determined to destroy Rayman. But there's no foothold - this machine has no jet pack - the only thing keeping him alive is his arms and he needed those to shoot Rayman! WELL GODDAMN IT. At least he still has homing rockets...
The whole situation seems far more plausible to me - and it seems a whole lot more understandable. Of course, in the PS1 version, the Grolgoth does have jetpacks, so I guess that's where that part of the battle comes from...
Anyway - those were my thoughts.
