There's the difference. An Ice Castle? Yeah, haven't seen that before. *coughfrozenwasanoverratedfilmthatwassomediocre* The difference is the frozen island. Now that's an intriguing idea. A jungle covered in snow and frozen.
Frozen was indeed overrated but it's by no means mediocre, but that's besides the point. Yeah it was cool to revisit the jungle while it was frozen but I think that's a huge waste of potential for a final level.

it's just pretty typical for Nintendo, and makes DK's platformers look a bit TOO much like a Mario game. Not to say that Tropical Freeze doesn't have it's really unique moments that I don't think you'd see in other Nintendo platformers
You nailed it, seriously. The main problem I have with the new DKC games is that it feels far too much like Mario.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OKAY! This is the forum that was giving a ton of shit about Origins/Legends not having a story!
I loved both Origins and Legends but I don't see what's wrong with majority of us wanting to see something similar as Rayman 2? I mean yeah Origins and Legends are different and a bit of a nice break from the well done story of Rayman 2 but I really would like to see a Rayman game attempt this type of thing again. (Hence what Adsolution is doing with ROTD)

Comparing, the Snowmads wanting to expand their kingdom and King K. Rool wanting the Banana for the fuck of it, I think Tropical Freeze gives me a purpose to wanting to kick the ass of my foes. It gives motivation to the player.
Bowser capturing the princess is enough motivation for me. Like I said, it's a Donkey Kong game, you really don't need a cohesive plot. Should I play Pac-man to highly invest myself in the story? The ghosts gave me a reason to be pissed off.

There you said it! Returns & Tropical Freeze keep the old formula of the Original DKC games and added a lot of new things! Tropical Freeze also made the game harder than previous titles, which they handled really good! And yes something new isn't always good. Just look at DK64. That's an example. Again, I'm trying to get nostalgia involved with this.
Uh.... what. Just because I liked Wrath Of Cortex does not mean I don't prefer the older Crash games. And I'm reminding you that in no way am I saying Tropical Freeze/Returns are bad games, just in comparison to the older DK games. Simply because new things are added doesn't mean it's better. You've still got two completely different games with two different art styles.

In no way did I try to include nostalgia!

Nostalgia is nice, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. But if the people who let it take over them, then they become the problem.
You weren't saying it directly, but you sure as hell were implying it. I even mentioned earlier, I know you weren't calling me a nostalgiafag though.

Also, aren't previous members of Rareware now working at Retro?
No, a lot of the Rare staff that made Rareware so good are gone. But I think Retro is as close to the new Rareware as we got. Rare is pretty shitty right now with there current where-a-bouts.
Anyways sorry if I don't reply anytime soon as I start community college first day in a few hours...

Let's keep this an insult free debate though if we are to keep going.
