Ok I should've done my homework better
Thing is: I mixed this meteor and asteriod 2012 DA14 up (I thought they were the same thing)
This meteor is only the size of a bus while 2012 DA14 is 45 meters.
If 2012 DA14 would've hit there.. a big chunck of Russia would be wiped out.

Well, shit! Even with all eyes pointing towards the skies, it's still possible for large bodies to squirm past our diligent watchmen. Many got hurt, but at least the numbers are still - considering what could have happened - relatively low:

Around 1,200 people have sought medical attention in Chelyabinsk alone because of the disaster, the official website of regional governor Mikhail Yurevich reported. Over 50 of those injured have been hospitalized, two of whom are in critical condition. The number of injured includes 289 children, the website said. A 52-year-old woman who suffered a spinal fracture will be transported to Moscow for treatment.

It's terrible news, but consider what would have been the case had the meteor hit an extremely densely populated capital city, for example, or a critical barrier between the land and the sea, or a power plant for that matter.

I just hope we'll be raising our guard against smaller objects from now on - let at least a public warning be available next time something like this is inbound.


I'm also really surprised about how little I heard of this. I caught the odd conversation at school yesterday, but mostly, I didn't know about it until I came here moments ago. Where is the public awareness?
Then again, it did happen only hours before my school started, so maybe people will get to know of it during the course of this week.

Just noticed El Dango's signature, Pulp Fiction is one of the best movies I've seen, instant classic.
Needless to say, anything that shows Marcelluss' wife is amazing.

I'm watching the stream on twitch.tv, and it has a comments section...
Naturally, filled with fanboy wars.
 
Everyone on IGN is complaining about stuff. It is now down. I'm now trying to watch on Kotaku. The video works, but the sound keeps glitching. Oh well, there will be lots of news to read tomorrow.
