My reasons were to explain that The You Game isn't some average, invaluable topic where people post crap that have no value to the forum. In fact, it has helped keep RPC active as far as the Off Topic section of the English forum goes. Over 8,000 pages since 2003, the most posted topic in RPC. And if you say that it's some below average topic where people goof around with stupid comments, then that's an invalid claim that should be irrelevant to this discussion. Maybe I need to open my eyes more but, can you at least provide evidence?

The You Game is a thread where people type out whatever they're rambling to themselves about, how often do you actually see any substantive discussion happen in there? And what's wrong with people goofing around with stupid comments? Giving people a goof and a gaff is more substantive than < ate pizza < woke up with a headache < pulsating anus. But we don't ban either form of posting because that's what keeps things comfy and enjoyable, so it's, almost like, this whole discussion is fucking stupid and useless!

If this was an actual problem in the first place, then I still don't get why we're like handing guns to each other and asking to pull the trigger. If said "shitposting" derailed conversation and meant random memes getting posted in the wrong topics there'd be a point to be had, but right now inco's acting like we're waterboarding him because he had to scroll past some zalgo text in the off-topic thread. I may, or may not, have fallen victim to the bandwagon. If memory serves me right, I do believe this forum used to be more active in terms of posts per day in my early days. I could be wrong, but it just feels like there isn't as much posts and activity as it used to be.

A few years back even when the activity was declining, I or any other member with the will to bring some life back could randomly browse a topic and find a decent post to answer, now all I see is... Meh, even answering posts after RD seems better.

This is right, for someone who has been everyday here since I registered 4 years ago I can really say that even the July of 2015 which was the most inactive period of my userlifetime had more decent and numerous posts than now, even when Hoodcom locked that topic we are posting in.

The activity of the forum is indeed declining.

In fact, the months of April, May, August, September, October, November and December 2016 were the least active since 2007 with the exception of October 2010 (and May 2016 was actually the worst since 2007, even worse than October 2010). June 2016 was hardly better than the 2013 low, and July can't really be compared as record day took place then, though it is worth nothing that we didn't even reach three quarters of the previous record.

In short, pretty much every single month since last April saw the worst activity in almost ten years.

Unless Discord is somehow more active than Skype then the IRC at it's peak has been greatly active that's on par with how Skype is now, and unless you guys only got it when people stopped using the IRC then i've no idea how you two could compare the chats.

I don't have access to any figures regarding the IRC but having been around back when it was a thing, I remember it being way less active than the Skype group, and certainly not reaching in the thousands of messages per day.

Yes, nothing's changed. New members come frequently, only a few stick around; this happens on every forum.

I think the retention rate used to be higher, and this drop is most likely caused by the low activity. Shitposting certainly doesn't help but I don't think there was enough of it lately to deter potential members. In any case, please refrain yourselves from making the situation any worse.

Remember I didn't start any of this, I offered my opinion on the whole subject after inco's post that started the discussion. Was it the best one? No. Mostly cause I didn't keep much track of activity in 2012-2013, and didn't have a ton of supporting facts.

It just goes down down and down until a new generation of users appear.

I really used to enjoy and like that place, but the more it goes and the more it almost feels like an obligation to come here.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it saw days of intense activity. I simply have the impression, having seen both, that the Skype group is significantly more active.

Another factor to take into account is probably the fact that the community is smaller nowadays, and one might want to consider the activity of other channels relative to that of the forum.

There's nothing wrong with the Skype chat and your war on it is still supremely retardne. It's been a great way to talk with people who are otherwise chained to a certain handful of forum topics and interact outside the limits of posting, plus it's a fun distraction during work and has a been a real good way!! for people to have real-time conversation and do something together.

That doesn't mean the forums are unnecessary or too restrained to allow good discussion, it's just a different form of interaction with different topics, hanging out with a friend is different from having class with them. I wouldn't be posting here every day and with this much content if the evil niggerchat was consuming my rpc needs, as you suggested. Everything posted in Skype wouldn't be posted here if it didn't exist, there's plenty said there that's too personal, or pushes limits, or is just smalltalk that doesn't warrant a forum discussion. It isn't the spam outlet you're trying to paint and blame.

Skype isn't a hivemind of identical personalities (even though some of us here seem to be vouching for that kind of thing!) and clearly RPC's, "more representative" members aren't getting mctriggered when we pull a goof in there, the same way you could've easily scrolled over zalgo text and an emote and not been a little bitch!! So exactly how is the skype chat a bad thing?
The skype chat helped me to connect with the members on here beyond a level of friendship, and as Keane said, it's a nice little quick distraction. I was able to connect with some members beyond other interests than just 'Rayman.' Once again to echo Keane, it's not a matter of more activity on skype, rather, a different (and for me, more serious) type of interaction.

I try to avoid my joke type posts and save that for skype, but if you see my recent posts whenever I try to type out something more serious (thoughts on a game, discussion related to Rayman, etc.), I post it on here.
