I would probably choose the SL300, the unidirectional one for what you're trying to do. Even for things such as piano I would suggest unidirectional, because then you get the noise cancellation from the other end, which gives a more pure and unified sound. The only time I would suggest omnidirectional is if you're recording multiple things at the same time with one mic, or if you're recording the great outdoors.Shrooblord said:RayFan, I'm looking into microphones in more detail and I found two mics I may be interested in. They're both USB mics of the same make, but they're different models.
The mics in question are the SL150 and the SL300, both from 'EditorsKeys'. The difference between the two is mainly that one has only a unidirectional setting, whereas the other one can switch to an omnidirectional one too, which may be useful for recording certain other things (recording a piano works well with this, so I've heard). I was wondering, since you're really into recording and using weird effects on ordinary sounds to create your sound effects, if you could tell me if these settings would be sufficient for similar means. Mainly I'd like to record speech and song, but perhaps, once I have it, I might get interested in recording other things. What do you think?
