All of the NTSC versions of those are 60fps, while the PAL ones are 50fps. The GBA version has a lot of slowdown though, which would be very noticeable at times. PAL doesn't exist on DS and GBA though, the EU games are still 60fps. PC is the same, although there is a 50Hz option on PC too.

Some people aren't as sensitive to these things and just don't perceive them the way others do. Unfortunately, I notice every little thing, it can be both a blessing and a curse.

i never notice framerate dips (unless unplayable like sometimes in RR)

Some people just don't see it like others, it actually is kind of weird.

For example, NTSC TV shows are 24fps, their TV's are 60Hz. 24 doesn't go into 60, so instead, every second frame alternates in the amount of frames it's shown for.

So it's like:
Frame 1 is 2 frames long, frame 2 is 3 frames, frame 3 is 2 frames, frame 4 is 3 frames etc.

Every second frame alternates between being shown for 2 & 3 frames, which creates a juddering look. I personally find this annoying, but clearly a lot of people don't notice it considering it's been America's TV standard for years.

yea...i cant even notice...because its of course different in PAL

Yeah because that's the one thing we have better off, our shows are 25fps and the TV's are 50Hz. 25 goes into 50 twice, so every frame is shown for 2 frames nice and evenly.

Our TV's don't have judder because of this, but the only thing is that all of those 24fps shows get sped up to 25fps, to make them stutter free on our TV's. You wouldn't notice the speed difference unless you had them side by side, but you'll notice the sound being about 70 cents higher pitched, especially if you pay attention to a song when they play it on a show.

They do it side by side on this and you can even see how far ahead PAL ends up after only a few seconds. Side by side is at the end.

Steamed hams are just perfection!

I think it's really noticeable, especially on themes like that which you would hear time and time again. I remember the older episodes of Spongebob sounded normal, then one day it came on sped up and I was like "what the hell!?". After that, It took me years to realise why they were doing it.

If anyone wants an example, take a song you like and open it with something like Audacity. Go to effect, change speed and set it to exactly 4.271%. Then just hit play and you'll see the problem here.

I wish I could be like that too and just ignore it, but I can't help but notice all those little things like frameskip and fps drops etc. Playing Rayman 1 without a steady 60fps would just annoy me.

It's bad enough that I already played it at 84% of the intended speed my entire childhood, before figuring out what they done to us in the PAL era (before HDTV).

Same here. I'm also not particularly sensitive to low resolution, lack of AA or other filtering. In the sense that most of the time it does not prevent me from enjoying whatever it is I'm playing / watching. I like thinking of people like you and me as having "built-in filters" in the brain to improve crappy source material.

I have this thing where I have to fixate on everything down to the last detail and I can't help it. I'm not sure if it's part of ADHD or I'm just a weirdo.

Most of the time I'd say we're lucky, although in specific cases the ability to naturally notice fine details undoubtedly has its advantages.

It's not ADHD-related, as far as I can tell, as it has no basis in behavior and is not really voluntary; It's just that people have their perceptive filters (to extend the analogy) "wired" differently. I can say that there may be other things that I personally will consider annoying and be unable to tune them out, which you may not care about at all.

Haha well for me, the habit would be fixating on something instead of paying attention to other things in real life, which I'm kind of doing in game by focusing all those little things instead of playing the game.

Like I can't focus on something if I have no interest, but I'd have a friend over and could sit messing with the settings on the TV or something, as if nothing is even happening around me and they'd be left sitting there.

I guess noticing frameskip and low fps is different really though since my attention is in the game in the first place to notice it.

I won't use it as an excuse but I was just wondering if it had any relation to the fixation. (That rhymes too )

I have a question about the version of Rayman 1 you can find on the EU PSN: is it the PAL version? Because Rayman feels a tad floatier on PS3 than on PC.
Edit: also, the sounds are a bit pitched up.
