Only on the DSi. It's been transferred to the 3DS eShop. It wouldn't surprise me if the Switch would support it as well when Virtual Console eventually arrives.
 
I don't get why Ninty (or Sony for that matter) have been rather lackluster when it comes to dealing with their classic games market in this console generation. They've a very rich history of some of gaming's most iconic classics, and having old school titles does wonders for bulking up a smaller games library.
 
I think for Sony the issue is that they don't own most of their classics, which makes it harder to re-publish them. I still think it's rather odd that the PS4 doesn't support PS1 emulation though (first Sony console not to) since that's rather easy emulating. The PS2 Classics service is also very under utilized sadly enough, though I appreciate them trying to improve the old games (higher resolution, widescreen, trophies etc.) rather than just re-releasing them. As for Nintendo I don't feel that they have been bad with having classics on newer consoles. The 3DS has a pretty big Virtual Console library and a bunch of great remakes with new ones still being released. As for the Switch, it's getting Virtual Console soon.
 
Fair enough, I don't have as much experience on the Ninty side, I admit. I've been going off the lack of virtual console on the Switch. PlayStation on the other hand, I was very disappointed when I learned that they didn't support PS1 titles on the PS4. Given how the PS3 was more than capable of emulating the PS1, I don't see why the PS4 can't. It's particularly grating given how I own some PS1 classics on PSN, it'd be nice to have those titles playable on PS4 also.
 
I think I still have my old PSP lying about. I should give it a clean and see if it still works.

And yeah, I do kinda wish we did keep our PS3, but my brother was very keen to get a PS4 to play with his friends, and given how I didn't play on it much anymore, I agreed to selling it on so we could afford the PS4. I don't entirely regret it, I think Sony is starting to get some interesting titles, but you can see why I'm not so pleased that they didn't consider any backwards compatibility for this gen.

Yeah, because not just for the reason above, but a good example is Nintendo's virtual console. Games look like shit under their own emulation compared to what a PC emulator can do. Heck, even a legit console being plugged into a reputable upscaler would even look better.

It shouldn't be that difficult for Nintendo to make a good virtual console, or at least add options for people to customize how it looks.

RGB is the clear winner, when upscaled, when we are talking consoles vs consoles.
 
The only consoles I use for backwards compatibility are my PS3 for PS1 games and my Wii for GameCube games and I have no complaints about quality though.

Aye, one of the reasons the PSP was so ahead of it's time and is still the ultimate convenience today! Near perfect PS1 emulation, support for loads of other emulators and PSP games themselves are basically mini PS2 games. Plus they're beautiful systems, especially the PSP 2000 :hap:

Well that's pretty cool then! Not that I need it though since I have both a PS2 and a PS3.
 
I think only the newer revisions of the PSP support video out, though I could be wrong.

As for backward compatibility being bad, there's a clear difference between hardware and software emulation. Hardware emulation is usually really precise, but usually without any modifications (like button mapping, added online etc.). This is used for PS1 games on a PS2, DS games on 3DS etc. But software emulation can be pretty bad, like the virtual console. The PS1 software emulation on PS3/P/Vita is pretty good though. I've only ever noticed a few minor issues like input lag when upscaled and crashing (only one game though).

Mine's a 2000 and it supports video out, I think only the very first model doesn't support it
 
If I remember correctly, MyLifeinGaming did mention the PSP and Vita as a good source for playing PS1 games... Let's here, ah, here's the video. Around the 14 minute mark is where they begin with the PSP:
