Rayman himself

But as said, he's not a human, but a limbless humanoid (human-resembling creature). That's one way where the "man" suffix can be used properly enough.
 
Oh geez... I have to admit that as much as I want to respect the history of one of my favorite characters, I cannot express how unbelievably RELIEVED I am that they scrapped the idea of Jimmy and Hereitscool... what I really meant in the comparison of Superman and Batman was that 'Superman' is named Super-man because he's... well... super. And Batman is called BAT man because he dresses like a Bat. And all along those lines. XD I guess I remembered 'What about Jimmy?' in the back of my mind when I was typing that, but I kind of ignored it, LOL. Plus I never really understood where the 'Ray' part of 'Rayman' would come from if that's the case...

Yeah, I was really referring to the fact that Rayman seems to be a name more than anything else at this point. It lost the point of being a superhero name when Jimmy and Hereitscool were scrapped(again, thank god), and after that it was just used as a normal name. Or at least, it's how I've been thinking of it. XD

LOL. For some reason I can't stop giggling at the Man of Rays bit. Then again, early morning DOES tend to do strange things to my brain at times, so that shouldn't really be surprising.

But... yes. It could technically be "man of rays" by saying "Rayman" but I'd still rather think of it as a name, since that's usually how it seems to be used the most. =P

I suppose so. And I'm not going to deny that it's almost certainly where the "man" part of his name came from. But since "Rayman" was originally some kind of superhero name for the alter ego of some freakishly-intelligent kid named Jimmy who somehow managed to create an entire digitized world and... you know what I'm just gonna stop on that. Point is, they kept the name 'Rayman' even after scrapping that concept(have I mentioned how glad I am they did?), and I guess it's easier for me to think of it as just a name and not something referring to what he actually is. It reminds me of "Raymond".

Funny story, actually... in elementary school there was some kid in my class named Raymond and I always thought of Rayman when I heard his name, LOL. :lol:

I say thank god, then, if it was never official/considered by Ancel. I don't know all too much about that old Jimmy stuff, though, maybe I'll have to look it up sometime to get my facts to be straight. Or at least, more straight, as the case were. Ah whatever... point is I gotta look it up again sometime.

Oh well. It doesn't affect my personal preference of thinking Rayman as an actual name rather than a 'hero identity', anyways. Even if that strange, strange stuff WERE official(if it wasn't like you said; I'm not sure what to believe until I find out for myself, not saying you're wrong or anything, I'm just skeptical by nature), I'd consider it to be 'scrapped' material by the final product that if the name 'Rayman' carried over it'd be a name more than a general identity like a superhero might have.
 
Oh dear. It seems that the Jimmy crap was official after all... I just assumed it wasn’t because the only mention of it until now was on a Jaguar advertisement, but according to Pix’n Love it was actually the original story...

Darn... I thought it was, and I guess at this point when you said that I got a bit hopeful that I was wrong. No such luck, it seems... Well, all the more reason to be fervently thankful it was scrapped, then. :?

No kidding. XD I don't think it'd have struck up my interest if it continued along that route... plus it's unlikely the franchise would have been successful at all. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself here, but we love Rayman because it's so charming and strange. Take that away and I'm sure I'd never have developed an interest in Rayman. And if that happened, I wouldn't even be here right now... :boon:
 
If the Hereitscool thing remained, and the game was popular enough for a sequel, what do you think would become of Rayman 2?

A disaster for sure. I'm sure they would screw stuff somehow.
 
How so? What do you think alternate universe R2 would be like?

We all assume Hereitscool would be terrible, but until we play it...
 
Rayman the limbless hero

I thinks its his 15th anniversary soon. When was his 10th anniversary game made?
 
Well, maybe it would go 3D, but without too much improvements... Maybe it would be a virus attacking the Hereiscool and *cough* Jimmy *cough* must eliminate them?
 
Well Hereitscool is just what they wanted to call Rayman's world, but it wouldn't have changed anything to the universe itself...
 
I think he's a great character. Very creative. I also think he's better than Mario... :confus: :confus: :confus: :confus: :confus:

Rayman is a living proof that to a game character being good it doesn't need to have Japanese origin.
