There is a misconception about Rayman where many people thought that his name is a portmanteau word of "ray" (it is referred directly to electricity) with the suffix "man", which it's often used to name male superheroes. But his name is actually derived from the ray tracing program, so he was going to be called "Ray Trace Man" before deciding to shorten the name at the end according to
L'Histoire de Rayman.
