Where did he say precisely that?

In this video :

You can see someone ask him if he planned to work on a new Rayman 3D, and Michel Ancel says that he must make choices, and that it's not expected in the immediate future. Maybe a little later.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that when I listened to it first. He also mentions the 3D RL trailer was some sort of proof of concept of a possible 3D Rayman in the Rayman Legends universe. Too bad - even seeing them consider that universe for 3D Rayman games makes me a little sad. :/

So anyone think they're gonna reveal a new Rayman game at E3?
I think it is maybe possible but currently there are bigger chances that Sony reveals new Crash Bandicoot than Ubisoft revealing new Rayman. Rayman will probably shine next year. Too bad Rayman doesn't sell like Mario :\

Hmm, while it won't be what I've been wanting out of a 3D game, I'd still be ok for a 3D UbiArt styled game.

Please, I just want an "old" rayman. Not the new one who is MUCH far from the Rayman that we all know.

Damn, really? I hope he changes his mind in the meantime, or else I will be sad. I do want a new 3D Rayman game, but not in Rayman Legends style, for the love of Polokus. It is already a bad idea to think about a third 2D game under this style, but keeping the same wacky universe for a 3D title? I do not know if Ubisoft noticed that that part of the fan community wanting a healthy crazy world to return. By healthy I mean the levels of R1 for example.

Rayman Legends sold much less copies than Origins for several factors, and I am confident that one of them is that the crazy style introduced in RO is not a novelty or something interesting anymore. It got old. They must rethink well in the things. I would keep going but I have a train to catch.

EDIT (Since I'm home now): I'm just going to point the classic example of the Raving Rabbids games. The first game was a (general) success. People were finding the Rabbids funny and all, the minigames were fun in group bla bla bla. It was ok for a suppoused single-titled spin-off. Then it comes RRR2. OK, Rayman disguises as a Rabbid in order to infiltrate in their group, but although I personally think that some minigames are more fun to play than in RRR1, it lacked more in the story. We have no idea what happened in the end, but in theory the Rabbids did not leave Earth due to the future events from Rabbids Go Home onwards. If the logic is like this, then the storyline of TVParty happens on Earth. There are no real evidences, I know, but this is my personal speculation. So with the RRR2, people got like "OK, they decided to do a sequel, but a new game should come after.". Then everybody got shocked to see TVParty's release, with much worse general gameplay and a more downgraded role to Rayman. People were already upset after the Rabbids at this point, they didn't ask for a third title at all. And we all saw what it happened. I just don't want a Deja-Vu to appear in this Origins/Legends phase, for the sake of saving the original atmosphere and magic of the franchise that we, the veteran (and oldest) fans had the luck to know and feel in real time.

I'm going to admit that I'm getting bored by the Rayman Origins/Legends style, due to the atmosphere detour that it has been taken since Origins onwards. RO, RL, RJR and RFR are more than enough. I'm getting worried if this kind of atmosphere is to keep going on for much longer, or else Ubisoft will be risking in loosing older fans, including me (and I pray to god that won't happen, because it would go against my will). It wasn't for this kind of atmosphere that I became a Rayman fan. There. End of rant.

I'm still for 3rd 2D game in same style to be made because I like trilogy games best but next one needs to be different styled.

I wouldn't mind a 3D game in that style, we all know it will still be creative, and debatably much moreso in 3D than in 2D, provided it tries to live up to its 2D counterparts and surpass them. It's sort of like how other series have gone through a transformation of different styles; this is the whacky, all-out cartoon version of Rayman, and I don't mind multiple different styles of Rayman existing.

Man, all of you are harsh. :v I would love to see an UbiArt styled game! Just imagine all of that creativity in three dimensions! You all need to be more open about this, if you don't mind. If not, that's okay. c:

^I agree. I personally would rather see something more, you know, but I don't see what bad could possibly come from it.

Hm, like I said, I'm OK with a 3D UbiArt title, but I won't mask the fact that it's not what I've been waiting for. Either ways we're dealing with hypotheticals at this point, and like I said in various other topics, at this point in time I'd rather see BG&E2 than a new Rayman of any sorts.

Don't get me wrong, but I'm simply worried. Ubisoft only needs to prove they can do it correctly. And I'll be waiting for that moment, hopefully a 3D moment.

Meh, I've come to accept that Rayman probably isn't going to be on the path I'd wish it to be. At this point in time, I'd like to see more experimentation with the franchise, the UbiArt look seems to have done the series well, but Rayman's formula is flexible enough to be applied in many different manners. I'm still very intrigued about having Rayman in a Metroidvania style, for instance.

I guess at the moment, my only hope really is that they don't end up overdoing the UbiArt formula to the point of stagnation, it's fun and charming in its own way, but I can imagine it'd get old if they continued it for the next decade or so. However, knowing the heart that went into Origins and Legends, it's clear to me that the series is being cared for, perhaps not in the way I'd envisioned, but still with good passion and spirit.
