OK, a major update this time.

First, I've completed Boss Rush. In the past few attempts I was successfully making it to the last 3 bosses with full power-ups, and somehow still ended up failing. Including two times on Mr. Dark's final form, even though I don't remember having that much trouble with him at the End of the World.

But, finally today, I had a good run, and managed to win. Mr. Dark's first form, BTW, is much easier if you have the maximum fist speed-up.

Then I realized I still only have 37 Magician Tokens. I missed the fact that I am supposed to win 3 of them in the Casino. Oh well, if I must play it, I must. So I also won the two special skins and then went and bought all the skins at the Shop, and also the Power-up upgrade (which makes big Ps give you 4 extra hitpoints instead of 2). I am actually happy I didn't buy it before Boss Rush, as it would have taken a lot of the challenge away.

However, I will probably absolutely make use of it when I feel like playing True Boss Rush. I tried it briefly today, and already Mr. Sax (Boss 5 out of 21) is super-annoying with all his extra attacks. I'm shuddering at the thought of what comes next. Well, I could always watch a video and spoil it for myself, but I will try to resist the temptation.

I didn't buy the ting magnet and cage/item locator, seeing as I found all the items without them already. I feel such items ruin the fun of the search anyways. I understood I may still have to buy them in the end to get my save file to 100% (currently at 98%), but I'll see first if I can beat True Boss Rush.

Oh, and I knew there had to be something about that giant eye in the Dark Magician's Challenge. I must have missed a cage or two during my first playthrough. Now I got the extra skin.

The End of the World feels like it has taken some inspiration from Earthworm Jim - in the music and the way the Giant Antitoons punch you a lot like Number Four (although, thankfully, without doing damage).

That. That is what makes the Mr. Stone achievement challenging, bc you have to defeat Mr. Stone at the end as well to receive his achievement. Though I must say, it is much MUCH easier than the Dark Legacy achievement.

I got the "Hard as a Rock" achievement today. Funnily, this was the first time I had a flawless battle against Mr. Stone in about 10 attempts. Wasn't going to miss on that one after going through the 4 prior levels taking no damage.

I don't think I will EVER try to beat Dark Legacy without taking damage.

Yeah, I admit that I didn't actually succeed in that particular achievement. I had to use the invinciiblity cheat for that stage. And for True Boss Rush cuz I sucked at both. But maybe you can succeed in True Boss Rush where I failed.

I would try it with cheats, but I suppose they don't work with Demise either.

I can definitely tell you that cheats do NOT work in Demise. I remember when I first tried playing through in this mode I tried inputting a cheat and the message I got in the bottom generally told me I had to power through it.

Ah yes… That level felt like an uncharacteristic reward in Classic, but I guess the joke was that the planned Demise mode would make it literally impossible!

Or maybe the lives in that level aren't evil in Demise (Has anyone actually got there to check? )

I only went through the first level so I don't remember this myself

But maybe you can succeed in True Boss Rush where I failed.

It seems hard. I managed to beat Mr. Sax only once thus far (and died on the next battle against the angry drummer; but that one I think is easier to manage once you learn the pattern).

In the end, I don't expect it's anything special - like all boss battles in Rayman - just learn the patterns. The problem is that with just 3 power-ups between 21 bosses, and the necessity to always play them in order from the beginning, that would take a whole lot of grinding and wasted time.

Two bugs that exist in the latest version of Redemption:

1. In the first part of "Brain Games" (Playtopia) you can get soft-locked if you shrink yourself and then go all the way back to the start of the level and fall to the bottom. There is no reason for you to do so, but if you do - I at least could not find a way to escape or to die. I wonder how many such places exist in other levels.
2. Redemption is different from Rayman 1 in that - if you have fully maxed out health and collect another big P, it will actually give you an extra health point. The formula to achieve this is something like NEW_HEALTH = MAX(BASE_HEALTH + 2, CURRENT_HEALTH + 1). When the "better Power-ups" bonus is active, the first big P adds 4, not 2 extra points to the base health. However, it looks like the above calculation has not been updated to account for that. This leads to a bizarre situation - where you actually can end up with fewer health points by picking up a big P if you already had more than base health, versus if you didn't.

Well, that's still a work in progress since I still have to do the Boss Rushes and buy the last things in Demise, and my currently uploaded videos only go as far as The Sweet Spot and Candy Château's Magician challenges...

So, I've finally played the game in all three difficulty modes + the original 4:3 screen ratio! So here's my opinion on those!
-Classic is the authentic experience and running out of lives isn't that easy unless it's your first time playing Rayman (or you know... the first time fighting *this* Mr Dark ).
-Though, Casual isn't a downgrade in any way and it actually trims down some of the Ting farming to buy everything at the end (and get the 5,000 Tings achievement too) by giving you some Tings instead whenever you pick up a life, so it's up to your preference when it comes to the lives' system.
-As for the old 4:3 ratio, yeah... As great as it is that Ryemanni made the effort of preserving it, it's just the inferior experience as I already mentioned before.
It especially makes the Dark Rayman battle and the secret boss more confusing as you can't see your opponents on the edge of the screen (which is very stressful when you're fighting Darkest Mr Dark).
Still a cool nostalgic feature, but widescreen is just the true and better Rayman Redemption, both for the visuals and the gameplay. It was just tedious to go back to do that (which I did so there could be at least one playthrough of that on YouTube)...

Demise, however... my god... It's not worth going for that unless you're that desperate for a challenge (as if the no damage achievements and the "challenge" cheat codes weren't bad enough already... ).
Even then, I'll say the main issue of Demise isn't how hard it is (I don't even find it that difficult), but how tedious and frustrating it gets. Why even remove *ALL* the checkpoints? It only makes you waste your time and makes the levels even more punishing than in Rayman 1 where there were at least a few checkpoints.
The game does not give you any extra lives unless you waste away all of your Tings in the shop (thus preventing you from buying other things), thus meaning you'll Game Over very often later on, and so you'll have to repeat many sections all over again as if the lack of checkpoint wasn't annoying enough!
The lack of healing power-ups also get absurd at times and make the Better Power-Ups upgrade pretty much useless despite its cost. And those that damage you are placed in a way that makes it confusing to find some secrets (such as a cage hidden near a life in Molten Depths) and makes it impossible to do a 100% no damage run (like that fake Big Power blocking the way to a gift in The Sweet Spot)...

Speaking of which, the worst case of that is Dark Legacy where the last section is filled to the brim with rigged lives! YES, including the "pyramid of lives" at the end which you can't get over, meaning it's literally impossible to earn Trap Master in this mode (and same goes for unlocking the HD Rayman skin unless you have a complete achievement file from another save, as cheat codes aren't available either)!
Just IMAGINE wasting hours of your life in this sanity-draining trial trying to achieve this, only to realise literally at the last second that this was impossible! You would punch through your computer screen, wreck your whole home and try to find Ryemanni so you can make sure his limbs meet their "Demise".
At least that's good news for me as I won't have to attempt this torture again, but still... But that also means you have to do the Boss Rushes with just one healing power-ups and fewer health points! As if True Boss Rush wasn't already hellish enough by default!

Also I got some strange "lags" during some levels (especially Molten Depths) and I had the screen glitching out during the first dark section in Eat at Joe's (which made the screen flash to a normal lighting regularly for less than a second)... Don't know if it's a Demise specific issue, if my computer is being weird with this game now, or if Redemption is now "obsolete" for the newer Windows updates of whatever...


Oh, btw, Ryemanni has removed his Twitter account due to some TOS changes which he disapproved, and so all his content from there (aside from some archived videos and screenshotted tweets) is lost and I won't be able either to keep you up to date with some of the things he used to announce there...
Though, he's on Tumblr and Mastodon now, but I don't check those very often so I advise you check these accounts yourself.
That also means we won't be able to use his tweets as a source for the "Fan RayWiki" if it does happen, and hopefully people will come forward with some archived stuff. Guess some of the "stolen videos" on YouTube like the ReDesigner 2021 Anniversary Update trailer have a purpose now.
Thankfully, I have a bunch of Rayman-related things from Ryemanni if needed (including The Spooky Raymansion teasers which I've already uploaded as unlisted and which are also partially visible in some of Glackum's videos), but there are a lot which I didn't get to save (like the "ReDesigner Blerbs", although they're still on ReDesigner's Game Jolt page as GIFs at least, but I think a few were videos with sound on Twitter)...
EDIT: Didn't watch the whole thing, but Ryemanni has made a stream where you can still see a big part of this Twitter page (mainly starting at 19:40 in the video), but that obviously excludes a lot of things (at least we still have Noseless Rayman's origin ).

In other (better) news, Ryemanni has accepted to let a user finish his old SNES skin originally planned for Redemption, and it has been made into a fully functional custom skin for Rayman ReDesigner!

Now all that's left to do is to turn it into a replacement mod for the current SNES skin in Redemption if that's possible*!
(*and it should be possible as functional sprite changes were already done in the past both for Redemption and ReDesigner)

I only played through The Pink Plant Woods on Demise. Just one stage, that’s it. All I needed to realize how truly evil that mode is! And I already told you about my experience with the cheat codes right? I didn’t know he trolled people with that impossible Dark Legacy trap though!

Thankfully it's possible to dodge all the rigged lives without much trouble, until you get to the pyramid that is... Feels like a huge middle finger to anyone who would attempt the challenge (which itself already felt like a herd of middle fingers pointed to completionists )!
There might be a slim possibility that the achievement is unlocked in the previous section in that mode or there might be a secret trick to get past the pyramid... but I'm not risking my sanity trying to find out.


By the way, I've made a discovery a while ago!
You probably already knew that using Dark Rayman's skin while being chased by him in Redemption/ReDesigner replaced the evil clone's appearance by his GBC skin... But something similar can also be performed in the True Boss Rush!
If you use the Dark GBC skin when you face Dark Rayman there, he will switch back to his normal appearance this time! However, his icon won't change.

I doubt it as Demise came out much later in version 1.1.0 and clearly doesn't show many signs of planning as I already pointed out in this mode's flaws...
Not to question his competency as a game developper, but I think it's far more likely he just didn't bother checking and testing it out

Only if you want 100% completion on your save file. Everything except the achievements is necessary to achieve that number (but they're still required for the HD Rayman skin).
Guess my only way to get a true completion for my playthrough this time will be to copy-paste my original achievement file

I don't think I'll ever get a 100% save file, because I don't foresee myself ever having the patience to "git gud" at True Boss Rush. I could cheat (some have), but then what's the point? Might as well watch a playthrough on Youtube.

Same, I don't think I could ever make a 100% save file based on my own merit. I was able to do Mr. Stone's Peaks no-hit achievement without the code, but it took hours and numerous reattempts. Seeing how hard the other 2 no-hit achievements were for me, I just couldn't do it and I don't have the patience for doing probably 100+ attempts at both Dark Legacy and True Boss Rush these days.

Kudos to all the people who were able to do it though, gotta give them credit for their determination.
