Aside of a now dead computer my gaming setup hasn't changed, but my PiP Boy is coming and... I'll just post pictures of it when it is done, if anyone is interested to see what it looks like now there is a photo inside the Linux topic.

Oh yes I have got loads of computers, I have 6 computers look at the list!
1 Windows 98 laptop that has a bad startup sound due to the speaker is old and no longer has internet.
2 Windows XP computers (ya know those big computers)
2 Windows XP laptops that run faster then the big ones
And a Windows 10 computer that used to be Windows 7
I will have photos of it later!
EDIT: I use the Windows 98 for old stuff because I am interested in old technology. And sometimes I play need for speed the old DOS game on it. But sadly I can't play Rayman on their due to the fact that my Rayman MS-DOS disc is broken and I only have a downloaded copy that has no music :(
 
I have lots of PC's few years ago.
1. My first PC was an Win XP computer, belongs to my mom, it sucks! Rayman 3 isn't working :/
2. Second computer was laptop and Rayman 3 still not working...and no internet connection
3. Third PC (still using)...RAYMAN 3 5 FPS!!!1!!1!1!1!1 Just kidding Rayman Legends 60 fps
 
I had quite a few PCs years ago, but as since they've been replaced slowly with laptops.
CUrrently I have
2 Asus laptops, 1 Win7 and 1 Win 10 (forgot I still had the Win7 one, so I'll post it here)
1 Dell Win8 laptop

My Win7 currently isn't working but I'd like to give it another go when I've gotten better fiddling around with tech.

I also have a HP Envy 15J laptop, but my computer makes a holy show of that thing :mrgreen:
 
I just want to update this and say that I've replaced my 7700K with a 3700X, I now have 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, I got a decent Steelseries mouse, I'm planning to order a 5700 XT (assuming this one actually works), and I just stopped bothering to use those crappy Logitech speakers. Last but not least, I now have an OLED TV. :mrgreen:

I also have a second computer with a 3770K and 8GB of 2400MHz DDR3 (for now), which I'll put the spare GTX 970 into once I get the new GPU.
 
Let's see, my current PC dates from August 2014, which makes it almost exactly six years old. Thinking about it, my previous PC was probably less than six years old when I built the current one, but then it's not like I haven't been upgrading bits of it…

On the CPU side, I have my trusty old Core i7-4790K, overclocked to 4.4 GHz, with Hyper-Threading disabled because from everything I hear it's more trouble than it's worth. I have one of these impressive beasts cooling it, although it's not as efficient as I'd like – my temp still sometimes spikes above 80 °C. That's probably because I ended up having to install one of the fans inside the case (like it's supposed to be) and the other one outside, because there's a chipset cooler in the way on the motherboard. :oops2:
Motherboard-wise, I have an MSI Z97 GAMING 3, which I bought used in 2018, having had the Z87 version installed previously, which was giving the CPU too much voltage and causing it to run hot all the time. That was so stupid of me, and I'm just glad it didn't fry completely during four years of abuse. :oops2:
RAM-wise, I've got 32 GB RAM running at 1333 MHz, and my storage is made of various SSDs (plus a HDD or two that I basically never use).

The GPU side is where it's got the most love in recent times, with an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT I installed in May after finally giving up on NVIDIA! There's a GeForce 10-something in there too, on the slow secondary PCIe slot, which I use for my Win10 VM (that I almost never power up anymore since Proton is now a thing)! Also that VM has been really glitchy since I swapped the motherboard in 2018, which may be due to the fact that the motherboard was used or that the PCIe slot is so slow… :?

My dream is to build a system using the Raptor Blackbird POWER9-based platform, but that would basically mean saying goodbye to gaming, since all commercial games are obviously for x86! Maybe one day Hangover and its ilk will be suitable for gaming, but I'm not holding my breath. :P In the old days, I used to have several PCs under my desk, but I don't really want to go down that road again. Plus, for what it costs, I'd want a Blackbird-based system to be suitable for all my needs.
 
I had both a 4770K and a 7700K, both ran really hot even with a 240mm AIO. I ended up delidding them and putting liquid metal under the IHS, this took about 15C off each of the temperatures. My 4770K could really only do 4.2GHz, and 4.3 if it was really pushed with the extra voltage, though it wasn't worth it. The 7700K could do 4.8GHz, and in a similar fashion to the above, 4.9 if it was really pushed. I also have a 3770K in my second computer at the moment, and this thing somehow easily does 4.6GHz, which actually really surprised me. It's not even that much worse than a 7700K at that rate, and that's with hyperthreading enabled too. That's crazy when you consider the 3770K is like 5 years older and more or less performs on par.

I haven't really used the second PC much though since my main one is still better with the 3700X. I also didn't bother trying to overclock the 3700X since it's literally not worth it, I just enabled precision boost overdrive. The second PC just has a couple of HDDs in it, and a copy of Gentoo that I installed using the 3770K (which proves that it's stable at 4.6GHz).

Anyway, I'd like to hear your experience with the 5500XT as to whether it's all smooth sailing, considering I'm ordering another 5700XT again and hoping this one will actually work properly for me. I'm hoping it's just because the other two I bought were from Amazon warehouse, though I had never had any problems with anything from there until these two GPUs. In any case, I'm buying one listed as new this time and just spending the extra, and I'll get a different brand than the past two I've tried also, just in case. I'll get the Thicc III edition since it's supposed to have really good cooling. It's got none of those flashy LEDs like the Sapphire revision of the card I had, but it does have a meme name that somewhat relates to Globox! :mrgreen:

Yeah, I've actually had a very good experience with the 5500XT. I installed the firmware, recompiled the kernel and Mesa with AMD instead of Nouveau drivers, shut down, replaced the card and booted up. I think there were a few complications, but I was able to resolve them quickly enough. Granted, I haven't run anything more strenuous than Black Mesa (OpenGL I guess), and Rayman M via DXVK, but it's such a relief to be shot of NVIDIA's driver! Especially since Unity only works properly on Mesa, so I was in the position where to view Rayman 3 maps in Raymap I had to use Nouveau, but to actually play the game (with DXVK) I had to use the proprietary driver! :fou2:
 
I did have the 5700XT working with LFS also, but for some reason I always had this weird issue with it where the sound would cut out intermittently on my TV, and it would sometimes crash, freezing the entire computer (it happened on LFS, Arch, and Gentoo, so that's ruled out). When it would freeze, the screen would have a checkerboard effect, and I could still move the cursor for some reason, but that was all I could do. Even attempting to switch to tty just resulted in it completely hanging.

Journalctl would also give this, though I know it was the GPU since the first one I had was way worse than the second:

I'm hoping they were just faulty ones though, maybe there was a bad batch. It's just weird that both had the HDMI audio issue though. Some people say they work great, others say they got pissed off with it and just went back to Nvidia. This is why I feel like there may have been a bad batch, though AMD never admitted that.
 
Never saw anything like that. A bad batch would probably explain your issue and the fact that the userbase is split like that, but it's a bit worrying to think that could have happened, and been swept under the rug. Still, I suppose that's the sort of thing that tends to happen when they boast about running the chip on a cutting-edge 7-nm process node…
 
Yeah, a lot of people actually complained and said that they're just beta testing 7nm at this stage. I asked on other forums about it and wondered if was I just unlucky twice. The first reply told me I was probably unlucky twice, then the next person said he had the issue twice and just got a 2060 Super instead. It's clear it doesn't affect all of the GPUs though, since they would have to recall them if that was the case, so I'm assuming I really did just get unlucky twice...

Anyway, I just ordered another one now. This time, it's a brand new one that isn't from the warehouse, and while it won't have them flashy LEDs (which my motherboard and fans already have anyway) it's going to remind me of Globox, because it's a Thicc III Ultra. :hap:

I recently got my hands on a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Computer with an i7 core to replace my other work laptop, which is currently suffering from hard drive failure.

This computer doesn't seem to have as much memory though with the C drive having only 481 GB.
 
I got another 5700XT, and I haven't tried to game on it much due to trying to resolve LFS issues. I'll get around to trying it out eventually though.

Not much has changed here, except that I had to take out that GeForce (for the Win10 VM) to put in a WiFi card some time ago, and more recently replaced the CPU cooler, so it now runs like a dream!

Earlier this week I played through the Solus Project for the first time since 2017. Now I can use Proton to do that (whereas back then I needed the Win10 VM) and it ran absolutely flawlessly on my Radeon, even with Folding@Home also running in the background (both CPU and GPU cores)! :partyhat: The computer felt like a radiator, but all the temps were sub-80 ºC, which they wouldn't have been before!

The thing is, I've also managed to set up a dual-boot between Linux from Scratch (on which I do all my gaming and general stuff) and MS-DOS 6.22, which still works on this hardware! I use the latter for tinkering, and for playing Rayman 1 and spinoffs since I wrote enough glue code to make the sound and music work on a modern PC :hap:
 
So my current laptop is an HP Envy x360, with a touchscreen, that runs Windows 11 Home edition. Currently, this is the only laptop I have that's usable, since my previous laptop screen is cracked and unless I hook it up to a TV or fix it I can't use it. :oops2:
 
I built a new PC about 3 months back (wow time flies). I got a Ryzen 9700X, 32GB of DDR5, and an MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi motherboard (mostly focused on power delivery here for the price it was). I put my 6700XT into it, and I also reused all my storage devices (SSDs, HDDs, etc.). I had to buy another power supply also, I believe it was some Corsair 750w. That was put into a Corsair 4000D Airflow case. Happy enough with it and I didn't even mind my old one beforehand. Moving country again is the main reason I decided meh, let's build another one.

I also have a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop with a 4600H, RTX2600, and 16GB DDR4. The screen was extremely bad in this laptop and only covered about 64% of sRGB, so I eventually went through headaches and got one that's over 93% which looks years better. I don't know why they even make screens that bad in the first place.

That's what I currently have anyway, and I use the PC much more often, but the laptop still isn't something I'd complain about having to use, it's capable of a lot and plays games well too.
