I know we're winding down from the subject at hand, but I wanted to add in my thoughts before we conclude it.

Like books. Remember the guy who shot John Lennon? He was 'inspired' by the book Catcher in the Rye. In the end, it doesn't matter - if you're nuts, you're nuts. And people will associate the things you do with the things you like, as if those made you go crazy or whatever. It's insane in itself. I can't comprehend any work of man that wasn't direct hellspawn that could literally turn sane people into mental patients. I can't comprehend why others must think that that can happen. I assume people just don't think straight when they're emotional, and they're, of course, incredibly emotional after a tragedy has occured.

2 whole games, incredible.
Well, if you want more, take the three games that comprise the Fable series. And I'm sure there are more. I do not
know any more, solely because I don't pay that much attention to it in games.
Seriously, guys and gals alike - I don't see why everyone's so bothered by things the game devs most likely didn't even think of. Consider this: you're a team of devs, for some reason or other mostly male. You make characters. You model them after people you know, say your colleagues. Yes, you're gonna have a pretty much full-male cast. Whatever, right? Apparently Ad came up with pretty much the same point:
Adsolution wrote:There just happen to be more male directors in the scene, and really, it would be far more likely for a male to have a better idea of how to write a male character than he would a female one, therefore he'd likely end up writing a male character - males and females are not the exact same.
Maybe there are people among them who think "Hey I'll put some women in this game too, that'll be fun." and then they get shat upon because those women weren't portrayed in a right light. Or maybe I'm wrong and Rockstar is sexist scum. Regardless, I agree - we must not let our influences be
only bad when it comes to female characters. But at the same time, we're allowed to have women painted in a slightly negative light now and then, just like men are sometimes. That doesn't have to result in this drama we're going through now.
If I know anything about Rockstar, it's that they're into satirical comedy that's borderline offensive. It's what they enjoy making. Look at South Park: the women in South Park are retards, but so are the men. Why don't we all blow up about the characters in that TV show? How about the wife from American Dad! ? Is she sane? No. Does that matter? Absolutely not - neither is anyone else.
But there are favourable female characters too! Samus Aran, for example. Who the hell doesn't want to be an amazing hero girl in a powersuit? Ly is pretty sweet - after Rayman, she's my favourite character of the series, coming in a
very close second (
Rayman only taking first place because... well he's Rayman and he has floaty hand bits and he's got a cool scarferchiek like). Betilla's swell. Fiora from League of Legends is one of my favourite characters from that game, coming second after Veigar, who I originally compared a lot to Mr. Dark. In Fable, you can choose whether you're a man or a woman. Should that game be called upon its actions for what you as a player can do while playing a woman? Doesn't murdering an entire village paint women in a shady light if you're playing a female character? But what if you're playing a guy...?
Exactly.
It doesn't matter.
Serza5 wrote:The problem is not even the fact we have more male protagonists but this idea of having a female protagonist- or just a strong female character in general is something that's treated as being so rare and daring that companies just opt for the "safer" male route.
Sadly, complete and undeniable truth.
Serza5 wrote:Best place to go for examples is any female gaming youtuber's comments and dare try and tell me you don't see anything along the lines of those sort of remarks or "oh you're so sexy and you like games, I wanna fuck you".
I have two comments to this: the first is that the YouTube comment section isn't a place that's a good example of anything but that it proves itself as the cesspool that it is. The second is that that's just the way guys think and talk. We like to shove grotesque opinions and thoughts out into the world because we either think it's funny, because we're rude shits or because that's genuinely our thoughts and we have no inhibition to think twice about what we do and do not post.
Adsolution wrote:I can't even keep up with this cavalcade of shit, there are new, 2000-word posts showing up every five seconds.
Do you want me to run out of quotes space in my signature? Because this is how you make me run out of space in my signature.
Listen, I feel you. I really do. Guys suck. There are a lot of assholes out there. Sexist cunts who should have their head stuck in a pile of fresh horse shit and forced to eat it until they become a bit more sane. But this is not the way. This war we're having for some reason will not make us equal.
Treating each other as equals will
make us equal. I cannot stress this enough: the more guys and gals alike keep pointing out why 'so and so trait about a female character is wrong', the more we're focussed on the differences between us when we wish to be unified as one. If we want to be more equal, we need to treat each other more equal. And yes, that means that more female protagonists need to show up, but forcing it in by drawing so much attention to it won't help. That will make devs go "Oh we need to put a girl hero in this or people will rage" instead of the intended "This hero's a girl because cool" or "because I want her to be".
We're different. It's true. We'll always be different, that's our biology. It's in our very nature to be divided into two separate groups. But we don't have to shut the other out. I accept you into mankind. Will you accept me into womankind?
