Re: New site
You don't get what I meant, it makes it a lot less visible, imagine some member creates some youtube channel or website and puts the link in his profile, it is a lot less visible than when it was displayed on every post.

Re: New site
Well as a matter of fact, it will still look bad with the extension. It's more like requiring an extension to fit your taste, as smilies just can't look good on non-integer dppx devices. I just don't happen to know a single forum that will look good at 125%.Drolpiraat wrote:Do you know any forum that requires an extension to not look bad? It's a first for me.
Well, I surely wasn't aware of that, and that's a pretty fucked up idea as almost everything will look crap.Drolpiraat wrote:I never "accepted" to use 125% zoom, as I said it is the default for my DPI settings, which were also 125% when I bought this laptop - I didn't change anything. 100% is near unreadable on my screen. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem as it's now a very common practice (in Belgium, at least) to sell laptops with 15in screens and a high resolution, with DPI scaling active by default to compensate. I think you are partly confused because I am talking about zoom levels, but this is really just a DPI issue, and it's exactly the same issue as those mobile devices with non-integer DPIs, so the market share isn't as tiny as you assume.
Yeah, I meant ‘if’ in a general way, should have said ‘since the amount of work is not unreasonable’. If I've made this change I can indeed tune it a bit.Drolpiraat wrote:If you read my post again, I showed that a few media queries are enough for that. Hell, I'd even be willing to write them for you, they'd be done in 5 minutes.
Yeah, I've tried it and found it really ugly, but not worse than using aliasing on pixel art.Drolpiraat wrote:Have you tried 125% zoom? It looks like this (scaled up to 200% of what they look like zoomed in, with pixel resize):
I vastly prefer these blurry smilies:
Granted, they're both awful when zoomed in like that, but the blur almost isn't noticeable on my DPI, while the harsh, duplicated outlines and distorted proportions of the pixelated ones are.
Like I said, I'm not angry or anything. I thought the wording was a bit OTT and I've let you know, but I value your opinion and I'm glad that you're sharing it here.Drolpiraat wrote:But yeah, again sorry that I appear to have pissed you off with this, it's really the last thing I want to do, especially over something like this. I'll drop the issue if you still feel that the blurry smilies don't look better than the pixelated ones for non-integer DPIs.
I, personally, don't have a preference. But it doesn't matter anyway, let's just have a small poll, see what people prefer, and the most popular option will be retained. All that matters is that this website is as enjoyable as possible for its users.
I've got two for blurry smilies, any other opinions?
The idea is for publishing to be automated from the RSS feed, and I don't believe that it is included in Buffer's free plan. No point in setting up any other service if I have to do it manually.Fifo wrote:Buffer does have a free plan, and there’s also Twitter’s web client and TweetDeck (which I use) if you don’t mind posting manually.
Well, I can. When's the last time you were able to log in?Fifo wrote:Also, Humch, I can’t login on the wiki
Good ones, will look into it.Fifo wrote:Rank names seem to appear in PMs, Humch plz fix:
Also, smilies are out of alignment in landscape mode on mobile:
It has nothing to do with browser zoom, only with the width of your screen. Therefore, you can easily imagine that it's not an easy change. I assume that you'd like to switch to the desktop view in situations where some information has been removed to make space for the rest, such as last posters on the forum index. But clicking a mobile view button won't be any faster than clicking the last post link and both will give you the same information (even more for the latter).Ambidextroid wrote:From what I understand browser zoom is automatically enabled on mobiles now so the site is more mobile friendly, where it used to be a fixed size and looked more like the desktop version. Sometimes I prefer the desktop size but it's not possible to change the page size on mobile as far as I know.
Basically just wondering if it's possible to get the desktop version on mobile?
In any case, as I said the way phpBB implemented responsiveness would require major changes to the software to have such a button and there's much more important for us to work on at the moment than rewriting phpBB (though, I'll grant you, it could use a great deal of refactoring
Well I can always remove the second one but there's not much else to say.Fifo wrote:When donating tings, the description line just says “Donate Tings”.
Too bad, could it have something to do with the font rendering of your browser/OS?PluMGMK wrote:Actually the gender icons don't look as good on desktop.I suppose it depends on a lot of factors though, I'm sure Chrome+Win users are laughing at me.

It was already looking perfect on my phone personally.
Don't mind me looking pretty abnormally big on that picture it was taken in winter and I was wearing two shirts and a hoodie under the suit)
Also PluM, Mozilla + Awesome user here, everything looks fine here.

Re: New site
Not saying the icons look awful or anything, they're just not quite as sleek as they were on mobile. They're still better than the old ones!

I don’t know about anything else that’d help you thenHunchman801 wrote:The idea is for publishing to be automated from the RSS feed, and I don't believe that it is included in Buffer's free plan. Scratch that, I managed to get there.Hunchman801 wrote:Well, I can. When's the last time you were able to log in?Fifo wrote:Also, Humch, I can’t login on the wiki
That one’s exactly what I was referring to. I do believe it used to say more than that before the upgrade.Hunchman801 wrote:Well I can always remove the second one but there's not much else to say.Fifo wrote:When donating tings, the description line just says “Donate Tings”.

It's not really a problem, I was just wondering if it was possible since it was hard to navigate at first but I've gotten used to it nowHunchman801 wrote:It has nothing to do with browser zoom, only with the width of your screen. Re: New site
Well, thanks Keane, hope you enjoy yourself doing it.
Also, I've just sent the rewards to everyone that helped with the new site. Just let me know if anything looks off to you.
If you ended up losing Tings, it's because you applied for the beta testing, were chosen, and did not participate in it. As you certainly know, many members wanted to be part of it and most were denied this opportunity. Applying without participating not only prevented some members from enjoying it, it also reduced the number of testers and resulted in more bugs making it to the final version. Please be more considerate and responsible next time.

Re: New site
Thank you - may the thousands upon thousands of vector icons I made across the forum and the Wiki be enjoyed by all, both homo and straight.
Also, I still vouch for a scaling mode option in the UCP. Rather than forcing bilinearity upon everyone (both homo and straight), this will allow those of us who use zooming (the straights) to be satisfied alongside everyone else. One size never fits all!

I don't know if its been brought up yet but "the team" tab is lacking a couple of moderators.
Re: New site
Thanks for the tings!
Yeah I believe Humch needs to add the moderator groups to the Team tab in the ACP.Dart wrote:I don't know if its been brought up yet but "the team" tab is lacking a couple of moderators.

Re: New site
The change is subtil, but a lot of the features are really, really neat!
Which is, in my opinion, how any UI should be improved!
I especially enjoy the messages pop-up in forums instead of redirecting to a new page. So much gained time!

Re: New site
I think the FAQ could do with an update, some features such as custom avatars and bump links have their default description even though they're disabled in this board

Was just about to post that. But I believe it's already being looked into.
On a somewhat related note, backslashes can appear in notifications of Ting donations:

Re: New site
Oh you have the website in French ?
Also man, could you show me how the website looks on your mobile ? I wanna know if it is the global design or just me not being used to it.

I vaguely recall Plum mentioning that he uses the French version of the site, might be bad memory though.
