Haha, yeah :D

In your defense, the game doesn't make it obvious at any point how the combo system works exactly. But hey, if you've never felt the need to explore it and -still- enjoyed the game, it just goes to show that you love playing the game just for the sake of playing the game, which tells volumes about how good it is ;)

Good luck on your scoring endeavors though; may the Rayman gods protect you from rage-inducing moments as much as possible!

I love that Rayman games are always developed by Ubisoft Motepellier because they keep sharing ideas, in Rayman 3 they had the idea of creating several cars

and those ships remind me of something, yes, it's because they reused it for legends and origins

Yeah I don't blame anyone for not knowing the mechanics work this way, as it's not explained well at all in game. There's no indication that your current combo is 2x, 3x, 4x, and so on. It would have been nice if they simply just added a multiplier to make it very clear to people, or at least explained how the scoring works in the manual. It's nice though, how people took time out of their own day to describe how it works, as seen on RayWiki also.

I also think it's amazing how many people can just play Rayman 3 for the sake of it like this, and many don't even have any interest in scoring while thoroughly enjoying the game nonetheless. I love this about the game, that it's purely optional; it makes it have so much replay ability for people who do want to score, while of course people can pay no heed to it if they don't want to. It's still nice though to discover all the secrets, and maybe score 43001 or more points by the last part of TOTL.

MG actually discovered this glitch the same way, he messed up the gem combo and then ALT + F4'ed, only to find that the game kept the score. Something about the game keeping level progress/score progress seperate, or something along these lines iirc.
Oh, so this could happen almost anywhere huh? Clearly I'm not going to be using this save file solely because of the score. I can't even use this score for practice since it's not legit and I wanted to know how high of a score I could get since I haven't played the game in awhile. Back to square one for me I guess, which is fine since I was already there anyways.

If it can happen anywhere, I wonder why I've heard of it so many times in that particular level… Maybe because it's at the very end of a world, and in fact the first world?

It only came up to me now because I was trying to collect the gems at the end of the highway. Not sure if the combo of gems near the end gets added to the total score when the level percentage shows up but I jumped off to get sent back to the checkpoint and that didn’t work so I closed it then and there.

Yeah, that's exactly why FC's teensie highway is a prime candidate for this. If you mess up, you don't get the combo points from the gems, which warrants a restart. There's almost no other part in the game where something like this could happen, so when people do find this glitch, it's usually FC6.

That would be so frustrating if you actually got a good score in FC and had it ruined by that glitch. I suppose the only workaround for that would be to back up your save before playing the highway in the event that does happen.

Good idea, I should be mindful of this when I decide to try to improve my score and try to get those combos. I don't want to accidentally run into a situation my score is no longer legit.

It's nice to learn tricks to get better combos, but man, you really gotta be careful with some of these glitches too!

Yeah, the problem with the Teensie highway is the game cuts out to a cutscene before it gets to add your combo points, but there's a certain way to jump at the end of the highway, rendering the game to show Rayman falling for a few seconds and it gets time to add on the combo points. It's another silly thing they overlooked.

That's what they're referring to here, the jump might not always go as planned, and if they alt + F4 out to try play the section again, they might experience that score glitch.

I guess it never occurred to them that the user could go Alt+F4, especially since that can't be done on consoles  Although, does anything interesting happen if you reset a console at that moment?

That's actually something I don't recall trying, just hitting the reset button or powering off the console. I wonder if the way it saves is similar enough on at least one platform that it would encounter the same issue.

The console versions do seem to have longer level transitions than PC as well. They cut to the loading screen whereas if memory serves in the PS2 version at least, you have the autosave dialog come up as Rayman walks through towards the next level. Whereas in PC you get your rating then it immediately cuts through to a load screen

Question: Is there any explanations of what the crowns are in the released version of 3, since I know they had a purpose in the prototypes, but has there an answer been given in the released game?

I guess the Teensies have a lot of crowns since they couldn't decide who was King, so they decided to enchant some of them and use them in their puzzle Temples?

I guess, fair enough, althought they'd need to teleport everywhere to get those crowns since in the trilogy they got nowhere near the athletic abilities of Rayman.

You actually bring up a very interesting point. If Teensies can teleport, how did they even get caught in the first place? And why can't they just teleport out of their cages?

And what's the deal with some teensies holding on to cans (which, afaik, canonically contain the Hoodlums' battle suits)? How did they manage to steal those, and yet still got caught? And why weren't they taken away from the Teensies after catching them? So many questions...

Isn't it stated that the Teensies imprisoned themselves in the cages out of politeness to the incompetent Hoodlums?

I think a section in the Rayman 3 article about version differences would be more than welcome, yes!

I had completely forgotten about crowns originally being the main collectable in the game! I must agree that the gems are a better choice.

How would that explain the teensies that have the cans though? They couldn't have just politely stolen them!
