I often see people naming it Hawaiian pizza, unless they use this name just because adding pineapple on it gives it some "Hawaiian style"
Oops, my bad! Yeah you’re right, I misremembered. I must’ve been confusing it with something else
Nope, hawaiian pizza in reality has no real ties to the state of Hawaii. It wasn't even invented in the USA, but Canada in fact. It was merely coined 'hawaiian' because of the brand of canned pineapple being used by the Greek person who invented the pizza at the time.

But, but....what about Sweden's curried banana pizza? Is this legal if it tastes sweet?

Then another guy pointed out that it's even harder to imagine Italian cuisine without tomatoes, which have a very similar story!
And Indian food without chili pepper! (Well, the sub-varieties of it that make ample use of spicy food.)

Never heard of that one! A for pineapple pizza itself, I pretty much never have it because I always go for other toppings and recipes, but I can't say it's bad, let alone heretical. I suppose there is a continuum of authenticity from the original Neapolitan pizza to the more creative recipes that have been invented over the years, and that everyone will have their own opinion on where to draw the boundary. I once met this guy from Naples who considered that the only types of pizza were the marinara and the margherita, nothing else. But it's all semantics in the end, and I don't care so much what we call them. I like the original stuff, and I also enjoy trying unorthodox recipes every now and then, such as pizza with spaghetti alla carbonara. :fou2:

Thank you for clarifying, I have never been sure about the origins of this kind of pizza :D

Sorry if I took a while to reply but I had a heart attack after seeing that picture
We would never mix bananas with all those ingredients!

Anyway, everyone is free to do whatever they want with pizza, it's just that we Italians are too proud of our cuisine as it is often considered the best in the world, so we get mad if we see someone break our culinary traditions and make certain changes to our classic recipes

Same here :oops2:
When I was younger I used to love pizza with french fries and frankfurters (well, I still do but I haven't eaten one in years )
I tried Carbonara pizza a few times before and it's not bad, I do not know how popular these kinds of pizza inspired by pasta dishes are over here because not all restaurants have it on the menu..
But we do not put pasta on top of pizza, just use the other main ingredients of those recipes :P

To be honest, pineapple on the pizza isn't that bad... If I had to eat a sweet pizza, I'd prefer the pizza alla nutella. It's a calories bomb, but a slice doesn't hurt anyone, right? ;)

I don't think Italians are the only ones who are proud of their cuisines and get mad if they see an aberration (not only with pizzas, but also with the spaghetti alla carbonara con panna (cream)). You better don't put some fish in the paella or you're dead

Actually, those fake spaghetti alla carbonara aren't bad either, but they're just a different dish. I do prefer the original recipe though. :manger:

Now I'm trying to imagine someone denouncing California rolls as not real sushi... insanity. The very word "tradition" fills me with this urge to go pop bubble rap

Oh so French fry pizza is apparently okay... :fou:

Domino's (I think it was them?) had this really brief limited time french fry pizza, I tried it once because I thought it sounded like it could be good, and it was revolting, but they were probably some of the most sickeningly bland and tasteless fries I've ever had, they destroyed any enjoyment I could've gotten out of the rest of the pizza, and I have the palette of a 9 year old. How were the ones you had? I'd love to try it if it's actually made well.

Well I like the idea of having a slice of pizza with a side of French fries, but a French fry pizza sounds interesting. Maybe there's less of a chance of the fries being soggy since they're baked in the oven rather than fried in oil. I would hope if I ever come across a pizza the fries are seasoned properly!

Just kidding, it depends on the paella you're cooking. Original paella doesn't have mussels, but a seafood paella may have them. But if I had to eat a seafood paella I would prefer to eat a fideua.

Great, at least you didn’t leave the pizza behind in Sweden! :P

I wanted to have cheesy bread today that tasted like pepperoni pizza. But then I realized I didn’t have enough reward points so I’m slightly peeved. :(

I’ve never had it. I prefer pizza restaurants to pizza chains, but if you like Frankenstein pizza that’s good for you
