Most of it is canon, though I've taken a few liberties (such as my theory on Rayman's parentage), and made a few assumptions (such as all the gods being created by the Lums, the Heart being a reconstructed Protoon, and Polokus having a wife). Nothing to be taken too seriously; just a bit of fun and speculation.
You know, this is sort of contradicting yourself. If no-one knows in the R2 world who Rayman's parents are, then he must have been born of these two in a seperate R1 world. You (and I, for that matter) believe that both games took place in the same world.

Just because nobody knows who his parents are doesn't mean he was born in another world. If someone was adopted and didn't know who their parents were, and they couldn't find anyone who did, that doesn't mean that their parents are from another universe.
Wait, as I was typing that post a new theory started to form in my mind.
Betilla and Mr. Dark met each other under cover of night, not knowing who each other were and ... when Betilla was pregnant and found out who the father was, she was really ashamed and left the baby on the beach. What she didn't know was that he would grow up to save the world on numerous occasions.

Even though i have my own characters for Rayman's parents i like this idea. Or Maybe Dark used to be a good guy who Betilla loved, only he became evil shortly before Rayman was born
The Magician, if my theory is correct, probably knows that Mr Dark is Rayman's father, and perhaps the reason he sent him on his quest was that he knew he was the only one who cound defeat him. Betilla doesn't seem the type to abandon an innocent baby, and Rayman would have to be fully-grown (or at least old enough to speak) to convince the inhabitants of the Glade of "his good intentions"...
I think Mr Dark kidnapped him from Betilla with the intention of raising him to be an evil servant, and during some attempt by the good guys to get him back, the infant Rayman got lost in the wild, and was raised by the friendly forest creatures or something, then got lost at sea somehow and washed up on another island, where the locals (Ly, Globox etc.?) were amazed by his limblessness. After Mr Dark stole the Protoon, the Magician located Rayman and whisked him back to the valley...then, when the Pirates invaded, the Buccaneer travelled the world capturing slaves...the Buccaneer came to the R1 valley, captured Rayman, and, when its travels brought it back to the Glade's mainland, Globox allowed himself to be captured in order to get the Silver Lum to his old friend... It's also possible that Mr Dark or his servants raised Rayman to adulthood, then Rayman lost his memory in the event which caused him to be lost at sea, and Dark/Bad Rayman is an echo of his past...

Oof, I don't want to believe this version, but such deep plots suck always suck me in. I still prefer the other part of the post as a general theory though.
I've noticed a couple of problems with my theory; it doesn't fit with all the image of Rayman playing with the electoons with the Protoon in the background that we seen in the R1 Jaguar intro, and it doesn't fit with some R2 manual stuff. I'll go and refine it...
