Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time was a pretty epic one. Anyone who played it will probably instantly realise why I have my username.

Re: RPG's!
M&L Dream Team is coming out soon but I don't know what to think solely because of the jump from 2D to 3D...plus the bright blue lineart...
In the meantime I'm still on Ni No Kuni.

Re: RPG's!
I thought the same; the game looked odd, to me.
I like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness too, if that can be called an RPG.

I'm more into the Mario and Luigi series. I can't wait to get my hands on Dream Team!
Oh, Pokemon is nice, too.

Re: RPG's!
Thank the mother of nature I got Xenoblade Chronicles last Christmas before all of the copies in USA ran out. That game is phenomenal! Not to mention you can actually fight pretty well as a fur ball with 9999 health.
Paper Mario series is the story how I was introduced to RPG's in the first place. I'm still trying to do The Thousand Year Door and yet I am taking my time to enjoy every second of it. *Also is in love with the M&L series and wants to play Dream Team SO badly*
Um..Does anyone else like the FFTA series (including the second one) or am I just just the random person looking like I'm talking about something that makes no sense whatsoever?

Re: RPG's!
Hm, I don't really play RPGs, Mario and Luigi is the only RPG series I've really been following, though I think I dabbled with some Dragon Quest some time back.

Re: RPG's!
I never cared for RPGs. Most of them have rather good or at least decent soundtracks and plots and all, but if it's turn-based then I won't bother because I absolutely despise turn-based combat with exceptions. That, and they tend to be too lengthy for my tastes, requiring too much exploration of boring towns and conversations with typically two-dimensional NPCs who are typically rather bland. If it's an action-RPG though, on the other hand, I can easily forget most of the flaws which is strange because I usually don't care much for combat but I guess it depends on the genre or game series that I'm playing. I'd gladly pick up an action-RPG, action-adventure game with some more minor RPG twists, or some other genre with some RPG elements over a game that's primarily an RPG in a heartbeat.
Also, I find it funny that a genre called "Role-playing game" has games that don't make me feel like I'm in the role of the character at all or even remotely connected to the game - though granted most games don't have me feel like I'm the character, but I still get connected to many games and sort of escape reality by playing them, feeling like I'm in a different world. Yes, they do have connections with table-top RPGs of yore which could be used as an excuse for leveling up and having turn-based combat, but the turn-based combat is the largest atmosphere killer of the entire genre for me. I'm supposed to be in the role of the character, not on the sidelines controlling it with boring menu-based commands. Yes that's closer to how tabletop RPGs were since you took turns and gave commands but the point of it is to be in the role of the character so they shouldn't be worried about that; they should be worried about making it feel like you're actually a part of the game meaning real-time combat would be the logical choice. Also, what is up with Japan's obsession with RPGs.
The only RPGs I've successfully gotten into and loved are the Paper Mario games and Pokemon to an extent.

Re: RPG's!
Mario RPG games are best. I don't play other RPG's that much to be honest.

Re: RPG's!
Same here, The Thousand Year Door will always be one of my favorite RPGs.
Re: RPG's!
I still like Superstar Saga more but TTYD is awesome as well.

Re: RPG's!
Sadly, I've never owned a Gamecube, and my laptop certainly can't emulate one, as such, I've never had the opportunity to try out TTYD. However, I do thoroughly enjoy the handheld RPGs, and I do love me some Pokemon (as some members are probably aware, given my whinging over my lack of Pokemon X/Y).

Re: RPG's!
The term started out back with games like Dungeons and Dragons where you were your character. That particular genre where you have calculable and upgradable stats simply evolved into the world of video games and retained the name 'role-playing game' as those were the main features of the genre.Dark Lum Lord wrote:Also, I find it funny that a genre called "Role-playing game" has games that don't make me feel like I'm in the role of the character at all or even remotely connected to the game

I don't play too many RPGs but my favorites have to be Paper Mario, (still have to beat it Dx) and a few of the Pokemon titles, such as Emerald and Diamond.

Yes I'm aware, I had already mentioned table-top RPGs (ex. D&D) and their connection to the video game variety.Adsolution wrote:The term started out back with games like Dungeons and Dragons where you were your character. Re: RPG's!
im a big fan of rpgs, from pokemon to elder scrolls, actually rpgs are one of my fav genres in gaming, mostly cuz of how long they take to complete, for me,most of them never get boring, and i love many series:pokemon(with y and black 2 and heartgold being my fav),elder scrolls(with morrowind being my fav),borderlands(i really like the second one),baldur's gate, neverwinter nights, diablo(even more the second one) and the list goes on...
some people may say they might get boring at some moment but for me,nah,i really enjoy rpgs(expect most mmorpgs, they sometimes get really repetetive and boring)

Re: RPG's!
Isn't Elder Scrolls "Action Adventure" instead of "Action RPG"? Or is it still questionable like with Zelda? (some call Zelda Adventure some RPG, but to me Zelda always looked more like RPG and even Shigeru Miyamoto said it is RPG while to me Elder Scrolls looks more like Action Adventure)
