Wait a moment, where is the French version of the RO trailer? I don't think 'thingamajig' is French slang. And what about all the other languages, if any? What did they say instead of 'thingamajig'?

I’m really starting to wish they hadn’t used the word ‘thingamajig’ in the trailer. Fools now think that it’s the name of Rayman’s species.

i think that the athingamagic(something like that)make sense,remenber 1 thing on rayman 2 ,that you can see things about the world,so if you got all the yellow you should remenber a part of this that says:and you,you are mistery (something like that,i dont remenber)

Rayman's hair not only doesn't resemble rabbit ears (wrong shape, colour, inside is the same colour as the outside), but all of the games refer to 'helicopter HAIR' repeatedly. A big nose isn't something all cartoon rabbits have (bugs sure doesn't), and even than it's too round, and the mouth too far back, not to mention a lack of whiskers. Besides that, the rest of his body doesn't resemble a rabbit at all, so I rest my case: everyone who ever thought Rayman was a rabbit is MAD I tell you, pure MADNESS. i originally had a much longer message, with more all caps words, but i deleted it because it was so long 9and it broke my shift key0

A quick search has revealed to me that there is only an English version of this trailer. Which is bizarre, considering Ubisoft is French. Don't know how 'thingamajig' will be translated, if at all.

Ehhh, thingamajig, Limbless, call him what ya want—I do, however, find it rather hilarious that the most recent entry on the Rayman Origins blog refers to Rayman as an "uncontrollable eggplant." 
All the same, I think that out-of-context I'm gonna be calling him a thingamajig, it's more fun to say. Although I do think that Limbless would work better while talking about it seriously... =P

I'd say that's a perfectly logical guess, if you got that from the speech choice 'Raymanian' from Rayman Revolution(I think it's the default language in other versions of Rayman 2? I wouldn't know. D: ). But I'd think it to be bit strange to refer to Rayman as a Raymanian, since it seems a bit redundant with his name and everything... but that's just me. Some people like to call him Limbless, others thingamajigs, and apparently eggplants as well... I'm gonna stick with Limbless or thingamajig, personally. =P
Hm... and there's also the fact that the language as whole is referred to as 'Raymanian'(probably not an official name and more of a way to refer to it as 'gibberish made-up language' to the player, IMO), and using that option, EVERYONE in the game speaks that gibberish/language... how would it be a language and thing that the whole Glade knows if Rayman's the only limbless guy around? If I recall correctly, they were pretty surprised to see him, so his species obviously wasn't around before, or at least not to their knowledge.

Well, there were a lot of Raymanians in Rayman 1, like Tarayzan, The Magician, the Musician, etc.

Either way, it seems like Rayman is, in fact, an eggplant. The blog calls him an eggplant, and there was some artwork made around Rayman 2's time which had Raymans torso be an eggplant (stem and everything). Either that, or it's just some crazy running joke. On second thought, yeah, it's probably just a running joke.

Oh, good point. =P But still, I say my logic stands with Raymanian being an alternate name for the language everyone in the Glade speaks! Well, I thought about "Limbless Humanoid", because he does resemble humans in some form, just with a much larger nose and a slight deformation on the head. Also since the name is Rayman, we can take out the word, "man" from its composition, which is according to the dictionary: "the generic use of the word to refer to any human being" and "an adult person who is male", even when Rayman was not always an adult, and also hasn't been named for Rayboy. 
But as far as I see, "man" can be spelled the same way in French, even thought it's normally "homme". Another thing is when we can refer an object on a game as a "man", like in chess; "he taught me to set up the men on the chess board".

That was actually what I was trying to get across as where the 'Raymanian' term came from. I, unfortunately, tend to have a habit of royally sucking when it comes to explaining things, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up more confusing than it ought to have been...Haruka said:

And... don't most fictional characters resemble humans in some shape or form? After all, most authors/creators are human, and want to make a two-legged humanoid-ish creature because it's easier to work with in terms of the audience understanding it better, or because most people would just find it more appealing. Not to mention it's easier to portray movements and gestures and everything with a humanoidish figure, since most humans can understand what's trying to be put across... lots of two-legged humanoidish creatures in fiction resemble humans in that sense, but are clearly not. I personally find it strange to think of Rayman as a human since he's so radically different(and has no ears!), but at this point that's probably just personal taste more than actual evidence regarding his species...
Bah, I'm overthinking things on a train of thought that's kind of pointless as far as discussion on the subject goes... ah well, at least that makes me consistent.

Rayman is supposed to be a super hero name. The original plot was a kid named Jimmy becoming a super hero.

It seems like Rayman Origins is explaining this, as evidenced by the line "conjured from the magnificent moonbeams of the second summer solstice". He's a Man of Rays.
