The manual first appears at the start of [[The Fairy Council]] in [[Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc]], under the possession of [[Murfy]]. It is used by Murfy to provide general information on the game's controls, and it provides information about the superpowers [[Rayman]] acquires in the game. It is not seen afterwards as it's purpose was only to assist Murfy in providing instruction for training the player. The manual is a purple book with Rayman's "O" on the front cover (reflecting the design of Rayman's torso).

The Manual makes its first appearance at the beginning of the second phase of [[the Fairy Council]], the first of nine levels in ''[[Rayman 3]]''. It is in the possession of [[Rayman]]'s coach, the [[greenbottle]] [[Murfy]], who reads out general information the Manual has on the game's basics. [[Murfy]] notices that most of the Manual's advice is extremely obvious (e.g. ‘Push the jump button to jump.’), and makes sarcastic remarks about some of its advice (e.g. ‘Someone gets paid to write this junk?’).
 
Eventually the Manual grows angry at [[Murfy]]'s rudeness and disobedience and begins to speak itself, via subtitles. It threatens to fire [[Murfy]] from the game if he does not follow the ‘script’. The Manual does not appear after [[the Fairy Council]], as its only purpose is to assist [[Murfy]] in providing instructions to [[Rayman]] during the game's early sections.
