Rayman Junior (also known as Rayman Brain Games and Maths & English with Rayman) is a version of Rayman 1 for the Sony Playstation and MS-DOS that is designed to be an educational video game, in which it teaches children aged 6-8 the basics of maths and literacy.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Rayman Junior was made easier specially for the young player. The number of levels in the game has been reduced to just 12, two per world, and each one covers an educational topic, such as phonics, adding and subtracting, number recognition etc.

Each level starts with the Magician giving Rayman an overview on what he has to do. Then you will see the Magician's hat at various points of the level where he asks you a question even you walk past it. You then have three paths to choose from, the right path is the right answer to the question. A life is lost if the wrong path is taken. After you complete the level, you are then given a time limit in which you have to accomplish whatever challenge the magician has now set you.

The game contains a new world map, and aside of the levels, there is an extra one called Betilla's Garden, which the player uses to practice. This is the first time in which we hear Betilla the Fairy speak English. It also has a new title theme, and the level music is extended.

Plot

The plot of this game is similar to that of the original, though this time Mr Dark barges into the Magician's cottage and steals the Book of Knowledge. He also destroys the map to his hideout, which the Magician had kept in case of such an incident. Rayman has to find all the pieces of this map in order to complete the game.
