Mawpaws are creatures which look like kangaroos and goats. They have brown or blue fur (blue in the Xowar secret). The Teensies are using Mawpaws for transportation as seen in the intro.
Mawpaws, also known as Bonton and Flabar, are creatures which resemble kangaroos or goats. They have brown or blue fur (blue in the Xowar secret). The Teensie tribe known as the Sylkins tend the Mawpaws, and some Sylkins are seen shepherding them in the Rayman 3 intro sequence.

The Mawpaws are very handy for the Hoodlums, as it is most likely that alot of their clothes are made of the Mawpaw wool, as seen in the intro; the Black Lums are flying laps around the Mawpaw to steal it's fur. However, the instruction manual has stated that the Dark Lums would just use animal fur in general, and in Rayman 3 (GBA), Globox tried to prevent a Dark Lum from stealing teensie skin.
The Mawpaws are harvested by the Black Lums, who use their wool to weave Hoodlum outfits for themselves. At one point in Rayman 3, the Black Lums are seen attacking a Mawpaw like a swarm of locusts in order to steal its fur. However, the instruction manual has stated that the Black Lums just use animal fur in general.

The Mawpaw is a cut creature from Rayman 3. But they'd already made the model, so they decided to throw them in a secret room so that their work would't entirely go to waste.
An in-game model for the Mawpaw was created, but when the creature was cut from Rayman 3, the developers decided to hide a blue, horned Mawpaw in a secret room so that their work would not entirely go to waste. The room also contains other unused models, such as the Xowar and a jumping blue bird.

The Mawpaw was initially intended to play a much larger role in Rayman 3. The Mawpaw, known then as the Flabar, served to introduce "puzzle" elements. Depending on its various physical attributes (horns, wings, trunk, very thick fur, etc.), the Mawpaw had the very precise function of unblocking the player in the level. For example, Rayman could make the horned Mawpawss charge to ram down certain doors, or fly on the backs of the winged ones to reach otherwise inaccessible places. But since the game design for this creature was unsatisfactory, in the end it was used only to supply the Hoodlums with raw material to make their clothing (as the introduction to the game shows).

In the final version of Rayman 3, Mawpaws appear in the intro video, the "Xowar secret", Wanna Kick Rayman - Lesson 069, Wanna Kick Rayman - Lesson 273, Wanna Kick Rayman - Lesson 502, and Wanna Kick Rayman - Lesson 312.
