Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge is a spin-off isometric platform game based on Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc that was released exclusively for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It is the first and only game (as of 2011) in the Rayman series to be played from an isometric viewpoint in what appears to be a 2D environment, while using 3D sprites.

Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge is a spin-off "sequel" of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, and was released only for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It is the first of Rayman's game to use an isometric dimension. The plot has notable similarities with both the Rayman 2 plot and the Rayman 3 plot. Andre returns and Globox again swallows him, so Rayman and Globox must get him out.
Plot
Taking place supposedly a short while after the events in Rayman 3, Globox's body is once again invaded by André the Black Lum while Rayman is asleep, and now they have to search for each other. Meanwhile, the Hoodlums have been ordered to clone the body of Reflux and once again attempt to take over the Glade of Dreams.

Characters
The following text is a transcription from the game's manual:
Rayman
The main protagonist. You play as him in most levels.

Globox
When Globox, Rayman's devoted partner, mysteriously vanishes, Rayman will search from the top of Clearleaf forest to the bottom of the Heart of the World to rescue his friend from whatever evil has swept him away.
Globox is Rayman's friend who has again swallowed the Dark Lum Lord Andre. You get to play as him in a few levels.

Murfy
So roll up your sleeves and join Rayman in a harrowing quest throughout many lands in search of his missing compadre. Join Globox as he frantically seeks escape from the dark nightmares and sinister voices that haunt and confuse him. Join Rayman and Globox as, together, they endeavor to prevent the Dark Lum Andre from overpowering them both in time to complete his most diabolical scheme yet!
Murfy is a knowledgable flying green frog who, as in all Rayman games he appears in, helps you out and gives you hints.

André
The quest begins as Rayman heads to the Fairy Council, seeking wise-fly Murphy, whose advice he needs if he is to complete his most dangerous expedition!
André is the main villain of this game and Rayman 3. His spirit, still trapped inside Globox, has reawakened the Hoodlums and wants revenge.

Reflux Clone
Gameplay
In hopes of defeating Rayman, the Hoodlums create a clone of Reflux who Rayman must defeat.

Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge's gameplay uses some elements from Rayman 3, including the score counter and the Combo-mode, Teensie cages and Laser-Washing Powder cans.  Hoodlums and other enemies from Rayman 3 are also encountered.  The difference is that Lums, namely Yellow, Red, Green and Blue Lums, are collected as well as gems.  In each level, there is a certain number of Yellow Lums to collect, and typically there are four cages to break, both of which are counted down; the more the player collects and the higher he or she scores, the more likely he or she is to gain up to three Murfy Stamps, which are needed to unlock bonus levels.

In a few levels, Globox is a playable character, though he cannot fight the same way as Rayman, or go near the Hoodlums (because he is afraid of them, he will automatically run a short distance away from), unless he drinks a keg of plum juice, which will send him in a trance and have the confidence to attack enemies.  Sometimes Rayman and Globox can be played in the same level, though the player will have to switch characters for the right tasks, and the level cannot be exited unless both characters meet each other at the exit.
The game is also the only known platforming game which displays a full map of the level Rayman is currently exploring, that pinpoints his current position and the exit, as well as the locations of the Teensie cages.

Rayman must destroy Reflux's plum juice factory.

Vertiginous Riddle
This bonus level can be unlocked by achieving six Murfy stamps. It is a world high up in the clouds.

Dungeons of Murk
This is the first level where you play as Globox, who, having been captured by the Hoodlums, must sneak past them all to escape. Globox also shows his first signs of a split personality as he starts saying cruel and rude things.

Rivers of Murk
Rayman is trapped on a small island surrounded by water, so the Doc lets him borrow his raft to ride through the currents, using the switches to change their direction every now and then.

Bog of Murk
The Teensies have been captured by the Hoodlums, and Globox must free all six of them in order to escape the Hoodlums. Once again, this level returns from Rayman 3.

Begoniax Bayou
Rayman and Globox are reunited and Rayman must battle a previous enemy of his, Begoniax, by using her frog-transforming potions against her.

Hoodlum Moor
This is the first level that allows you to play as both Rayman and Globox. You must continuously switch between the two of them to give each other access to different areas of the level.

Land of the Livid Dead
Rayman and Globox must travel through the perilous underground caves. However, Rayman starts noticing Globox's cruel comments. This is also the final level of the game to return from Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Strangely, however, it is a deep, dark cave filled with lava rather than being the mysterious and peaceful forest it was in Hoodlum Havoc.

Sulphurous Sea
This bonus level can be unlocked by achieving --- Murfy Stamps. It is a sea of lava which you must travel across using a raft, finding the occasional islands now and then to find more Lums, cages and switches.

Menhirs of Power
Globox has wandered off again, so Rayman has to find him. After finding him, he and Globox must collect the six runes that go in the corresponding menhirs to access the way out. Rayman also learns to use the Fire Protection can here, which lets him walk on lava for a short time.

Pit of Endless Fire
Rayman must battle a Fire Monster. When it is defeated, the spirit of Andre, still possessed inside Globox from when he swallowed him in Rayman 3, announces his full control over Globox.

Clouds of Peril
Rayman must fly over the heights of the clouds in order to survive.

Cloudy Cache
Trivia
This level can be unlocked by achieving 25 Murfy Stamps. It is pretty much similar to Clouds of Peril.
* On the North American box art of the game, there is a typographical error whereby the apostrophe is placed between the word ‘Hoodlum’ and the letter ‘s’, making the subtitle seem as if there is only one Hoodlum rather than a group of them.

Heart of the World
* Although this is not a Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 (but rather, a direct sequel), it does mark many Rayman 3 characters' first and only appearance on handheld, many of which were absent from the actual Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3. These characters include Reflux, Romeo (referred to as Doc), and Begoniax (though there was a level in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 called Swamps of Begoniax but the character never actually appeared). It is possibly André's first appearance in a handheld game, although the Black Lum swallowed by Globox in Rayman 3 may be him, simply unnamed and with a smaller role. André does not strictly appear in this game, as he merely possesses Globox.
Andre's most powerful Hoodlum forces have taken over the Heart of the World, so Rayman must watch out if he is to get to the final battle.

Scalding Cascade
* There is a curious inconsistency in Romeo's appearance in this game. He gives his name as "Doc" not Romeo, and Rayman does not appear to recognise him, despite meeting him in Rayman 3.
This bonus level can be unlocked by breaking all the cages in the game. It is an underground, lava-filled level that uses the timed switches a lot.

Reflux's Lair
*On the first level, Rayman tells Murphy that he has been able to use his helicopter power all his life. However, he did not have that ability at the start of the first game.
In the final battle, Rayman must fight the Plum Juice-addicted Reflux Clone in order to stop the Hoodlums once again.

The following text is a transcription from the game's manual:

When Globox, Rayman's devoted partner, mysteriously vanishes, Rayman will search from the top of Clearleaf forest to the bottom of the Heart of the World to rescue his friend from whatever evil has swept him away.

The quest begins as Rayman heads to the Fairy Council, seeking wise-fly Murphy, whose advice he needs if he is to complete his most dangerous expedition!

Gameplay

Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge uses an isometric dimension.

Trivia

 • On the North American box art of the game, there is a typographical error whereby the apostrophe is placed between the word ‘Hoodlum’ and the letter ‘s’, making the subtitle seem as if there is only one Hoodlum rather than a group of them.
 • Although this is not a Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 (but rather, a direct sequel), it does mark many Rayman 3 characters' first and only appearance on handheld, many of which were absent from the actual Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3.
 • There is a curious inconsistency in Romeo's appearance in this game. He gives his name as "Doc" not Romeo, and Rayman does not appear to recognise him, despite meeting him in Rayman 3.
 • On the first level, Rayman tells Murphy that he has been able to use his helicopter power all his life. However, he did not have that ability at the start of the first game.
