Hmm, I'd be game for R1 reimaginings as RL DLC, but not so much R1 itself being reimagined in that style.

As for the trilogy getting HD, well...personally, I think they all ought to get it. Properly. R3 might only be over a decade old, but I feel it could benefit as much as any other title with modern technology and trends. R2 was pretty nice looking for its time, but it feels a little blank, even the PS2 version, which added some more foliage to the levels still has points where the levels feel a little empty. R1's art style has never really been revisited, and I feel it could do with a sharpening up, though I feel a HD remake of R1 is probably going to have to address the difficulty factor, if it's to be enticing for a wider audience.
 
Don't get me wrong, I think it would be awesome if they got it, but I was simply saying that I'm guessing Ancel wouldn't proceed to so out of relatively minor fan demand.
 
As for the difficulty, I think an Easy and Hard mode would be good. My proposal is that Easy would require only 50 tings for a new life and five life points like in the DSi version, as well as the easier cage positions of the PS1 version, and in addition, maybe slightly modified level design in areas. Hard would be like the traditional Rayman with the PC's cage locations.

Though, I think there should be ten continues in both. Five continues is far too few.
 
I would say just to get rid of the continues entirely, but Earthworm Jim HD kept them, so no harm letting them be.
 
Actually yeah, I can agree with that somewhat, I was never fond of the idea of continues, they make you feel bad when you use them. Sort of like using the bomb in Angry Birds, it's almost like cheating.

Of course by this I'm implying that you have zero continues, not unlimited.
 
I'm more in favor of just having the Save option. If you happen to Game Over during a level, well too effin' bad. You gotta start all over.
 
Starting the level over isn't bad. They aren't even that long, I can beat Eat At Joe's, the longest level in the game in under ten minutes (I've never really counted, I'm just estimating), the difficulty simply comes from getting through it. If you beat it once but couldn't a second time, it means you got lucky, not that you've mastered the skill required to consistently dominate the challenge the level presents you with. Unlimited lives basically means that it's waiting for you to get lucky. In some games like Origins where you can die from one hit and are more reliant on trial and error (where a lot of the fun actually comes from, getting a little further each time), unlimited lives is fine, but the first Rayman is a game that relies on mastering playing technique, not so much memorising the layout of the levels themselves. For instance, I can dive into playing some levels in By His Fans I've never played before and do reasonably well right off the bat, simply because I know the mechanics well, it's not the level design catching me off guard with stupid nonsense stuff, the game isn't designed like that.

But yes, the continue system should be limited to either something like 3 or not be there at all. But don't remove the system entirely since we wouldn't be able to see that cool splash art and Rayman's unique animations!!
 
Indeed, watching Rayman cough, skid and fall is the highlight of one's R1 experience I kid.

Meh, I wouldn't really miss the continues system, I used to cheat over it anyways in the older days.
 
The sabertooth fish is easier to avoid than what the majority of the players think: just duck.
 
Ahem, "just" duck? What about if you're in the air, or there's a low-flying hammer-bullet coming your way?

Actually, no. You have to duck right after the fish jumps, or else the fish will outright aim for your ducked position. This is insanely hard for most people to accomplish, and I find it much easier to simply skip most of the bits with the fish by running and jumping past right when the fish starts to get near, as another platform is almost always within reach.
 
Actually, no. As long as you aren't ducking on the left side of the ball, it won't hit you. Whether you're ducked or not has no affect on its trajectory, but you obviously need to be ducked and more towards the right for it not to hit you.

But yes, you're also quite easily able to outright skip the fish encounter entirely.

I've experienced different, but either way, simply ducking very often results in you getting hit, as the space you have under the fish is extremely small, and its jumps I know for a fact can be altered by position, if not whether you're ducking. Most of my deaths in that section have felt extraordinarily cheap, since the fish's AI seems to be just poorly designed.
 
What I find does help is, right when it jumps, just crawl forward a bit. That shouldn't be necessary if you're already ducking more on the right side of the ball, but it's a sure-win, and easier/faster to do than just going into a duck then.
 
At this point, I prefer to just kill the damn thing if at all possible. It gives me a lot of peace of mind and also those things have screwed me over so much in the past decade that I can't just leave them alone! :mrgreen:

I'm pretty sure on PC that they aim lower if you're ducked. If not my observational skills are really terrible. :( But tech thought the same thing, so there must be something to it.
