Moskito is a mosquito and the first major boss in Rayman, located in the Dream Forest, in Moskito's Nest.
Moskito is a red giant mosquito and the first major boss in the original Rayman game. He is encountered in Moskito's Nest, the final level of the Dream Forest.

Description
Like the other members of his species, Moskito is a giant flying limbless insect with large, round eyes and a prominent telescopic proboscis.

During the battle against him in the PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions, and during both the chase and the battle in the Atari Jaguar version, Moskito is red-skinned with red wings, pink gloves, a grey proboscis, and grey stripes and shoes. But on both occasions in the PC version and its ports, and only during the chase in the PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions, Moskito appears purple-skinned with white wings, white gloves, a yellow proboscis, and yellow stripes and shoes, like Bzzit.

When Moskito is first encountered in the third part of Moskito's Nest, the final level of the Dream Forest, he chases Rayman with a giant prickly fruit. He returns in the fifth part of the same level, where he must now be defeated. During the battle, Moskito attacks Rayman by trying to poke him with his proboscis and uses prickly fruits of various sizes to attack. With precise timing, it is possible to hit him twice per turn, before he flies up and away after the first hit. After 12 hits, Moskito is defeated and falls to the ground as Rayman celebrates his victory.

Maths and English with Rayman and French with Rayman
In the series of educational video games which contain Maths and English with Rayman and French with Rayman, a carving of a giant mosquito appears on a wooden palisade in various levels from the Caves of Skops. It is unknown if it represents Moskito or Bzzit.

Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends
In Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, up to four friendly giant mosquitoes appear, and can be ridden by the player characters in the game's sidescrolling shooter levels. In this game, they are referred to as "Moskitoes", probably as a reference to the boss from the original Rayman.

When Moskito is first encountered, he chases Rayman with a giant spiky fruit. During the battle, he attacks Rayman by trying to poke him with his nose and uses spiky berries of varying sizes to attack with. With a precise timing, it is possible to hit him twice per turn, before he starts flying up after the first hit.
Trivia
* The book L'Histoire de Rayman claims that Moskito could be Bzzit's father, though it also states that this is unconfirmed.

In the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar versions, Moskito has different colours; instead of being mostly purple with white gloves, and a yellow nose, shoes and stripes, he appears a more reddish purple colour, is a dark purple where he used to be yellow, and his gloves are changed to a brighter purple. Also, his wings change to red. Another difference is that the berries he uses are different colours instead of all being the same colour. Whilst Rayman is getting chased by Moskito with the giant spiky fruit when he is first encountered, and in the battle against Mr Dark, when the latter transforms into a hybrid of Moskito, Mr Sax and Space Mama, his colours are the same as in the PC version.
