The '''Spyglass Pirate''' <ref>Early ''Rayman 2'' artworks, [[:File:Gorilla Pirate and Glasses Pirate names source.jpg]]</ref>, also known as the '''Creole Pirate''' <ref>Official ''Rayman 2'' website, ''Charaktere'', http://web.archive.org/web/20001002215808/www.rayman2.com/all/good/characters/characters.html</ref>, is a unique [[Robo-Pirate]] character who appears in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]'' and its remakes, as well as making cameo appearances in ''[[Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc]]'' and ''[[Rayman Dictées]]''.

The appearance of the Spyglass Pirate is somewhat different from those of the other [[Robo-Pirate]]s. While he is still robotic, he looks more like a slightly chubby stereotypical pirate. The lower part of his mechanical body is coloured green to resemble trousers. He wears a yellow scarf covered with red polka-dots around his waist, and has a red-and-white striped bandana tied round his head. Like most Robo-Pirates, he is noticeably taller than [[Admiral Razorbeard]].

The Spyglass Pirate appears to have been in charge of the ground operations during [[Admiral Razorbeard]]'s campaign. He was a mechanical genius, and created many dangerous devices.

==Role in the games==

The Spyglass Pirate's role in the N64, PC, Dreamcast and DS versions of ''Rayman 2'' is very small. He appears in many cinematics in which he reports to [[Admiral Razorbeard]] regarding [[Rayman]]'s progress and whereabouts, but does little more. In every version, he debuts in the cinematic preceding Rayman's first visit to [[the Bayou]].

In the two Sony versions of ''Rayman 2'', the Spyglass Pirate is given much more importance. At multiple points he encounters Rayman and brings with him a difficult challenge. The lackey first strikes chronologically in ''[[Rayman Revolution]]'', in which he leads the attack on [[Clark]] and Rayman at the entrance to the [[Rainbow Creek]]. His next appearance, also ''Revolution''-exclusive, is a boss fight: the Spyglass Pirate jumps into the Boss Biditank to personally battle Rayman. The Spyglass Pirate next encounters Rayman in both the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 versions in the [[Technical Check-up]] situated at the end of the [[Tomb of the Ancients]], where it is seen that the Spyglass Pirate is controlling [[Clark]] via remote control. The Spyglass Pirate makes his final chronological appearance solely in the PlayStation version, at the end of [[The Iron Mountains|the Gloomy Island]], where he makes his final attempt to get rid of Rayman with his remote-controlled [[Robot Dinosaur]], which he had been using to search for the fourth [[Four Masks of Polokus|Mask of Polokus]]. Fortunately for Rayman, the Spyglass Pirate had forgotten to fill up the [[Robot Dinosaur]]'s fuel tank, and the [[Baby Globox]]es manage to escape with Rayman.

Before the final boss battle in [[the Crow's Nest]], [[Admiral Razorbeard]] says that he will punish the Spyglass Pirate for his consistent failure to stop [[Rayman]] by seeing how well he would swim in molten lava. He then orders the Spyglass Pirate to prepare the [[Grolgoth]] for him in the meantime. However, it is not clear whether this punishment was ever carried out, and the fate of the Spyglass Pirate remains unknown.

*After [[Boss Biditank]] is defeated, the Spyglass Pirate runs away, claiming ‘It's not over yet! I'll be back!’ This may be a reference to the ''Terminator'' film series.

==Appearances==

*In ''[[Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc|Rayman 3]]'', several statues of the Spyglass Pirate can be found in a secret room in [[Hoodlum Headquarters]], along with statues of various other [[Robo-Pirate]]s from ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]''.

*In ''Rayman 2'', after a level is passed with all of its [[Yellow Lum]]s collected and all of its [[cage]]s broken, the player can access a Bonus Stage in which they control a [[baby Globox]] racing against the Spyglass Pirate.

*In [[Rayman Dictées]], what appears to be a statue or replica of the Spyglass Pirate can be seen briefly in a cutscene which shows the interior of Rayman's house.
