'''The Photographer''' is a character from [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'' game]]. He serves as a checkpoint in the game, where [[Rayman]] can come back to where he was last photographed should he lose a life. His face is never seen apart from a large eye, though he has blonde hair, and wears a chequered trench coat and blue shoes. In ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape|Rayman 2]]'', he was replaced by the [[Green Lum]] checkpoints. When [[Rayman]] has to take his picture with the Photographer, a poster in front of him makes him look like he is very muscular, holding a surfboard and a sea shell. In ''[[Rayman Junior]]'', he has to look like he is wearing a cloak like [[Mr Dark]]'s whilst holding letters and numbers, while the Photographer wears a brown coat instead of a green one with red dots on it.

Though his exact purpose varies from game to game, he can usually be found standing near a photoboard, waiting to photograph [[Rayman]] and his friends.


The Photographer makes a brief appeareance in Rayman Origins during the opening sequence, when he takes a picture of Rayman, [[Globox]], and two teensies. Like several other returning ''[[Rayman 1|Rayman]]'' characters, the Photographer was changed to a [[Teensy]] to better fit the style of the previous sequels. His skin is a darker blue than that of his brethren, and he wears a purple outfit with a feathered hat. In earlier versions of the game, he was supposed to have a bigger role, and wait for the characters to come and pose on the cardboard at the end of the level, but in the final version the photographer is unseen (maybe as an omniscient being) and the photoboard takes a mayor role. The photoboard pops out after the heroes reach the end of the level and break the last [[electoon]]s [[cage]]. The characters take different positions in the photoboard, indicating who has collected the most [[Lum]]s, while the [[Magician]] takes the lums into a test tube. The new photoboard shows what appears to be a skinny, loincloth-clad creature wielding an axe , and a large woman in armour wielding a sword; the two most skilled players stand behind these pictures (respectively big woman the first place and the skinny creature the second place), while any remaining characters are left to peek out from behind the photoboard to get their picture taken. While in the original Rayman the Photographer's photoboard acted as a checkpoint within the levels, in this game it acts as an end-of-level point, much like an [[exit sign]] or a [[Spiral Door]].

His face is finally visible, and like several other returning characters, he has been changed to a [[Teensie]] to better fit the style of ''[[Rayman 2]]'' and ''[[Rayman 3]]''. He is somewhat different from the other [[Teensie]]s, with a thinner body, slightly darker skin, large, cartoonish hands, and a purple outfit with a feathered hat. Through the games, the Photographer has a tendency to change the photoboards that he uses to take pictures of [[Rayman]]. In [[Rayman 1|the original ''Rayman'']], the photoboard has a picture of a bodybuilder's body, standing on a beach and holding what appears to be a surfboard and a pair of swimming goggles. In ''[[Maths and English with Rayman]]'', the photoboard has a body wearing a blue graduation gown, holding colourful letters and numbers. In ''[[Rayman Designer]]'', it is the same, except holding a saw and a hammer. In ''[[French with Rayman]]'', the photoboard has a picture of a star sparkled blue cloak (similar to that of [[Mr Dark]]) holding an ice cream cone and a hamburger.

[[Rayman Origins (early production)|Earlier in the development of the game]], the Photographer was intended to appear and take the heroes' picture, but the developers chose to replace him with [[the Magician]] and his test tube (which he uses to collect and count [[Lum (UbiArt games)|Lums]]). It is not clear who actually takes the photographs in the final game, but it may be that the photographer is still present but simply standing off-screen, perhaps serving as the camera of the game itself (much like the Lakitu Bros in ''Super Mario 64''). In ''Brawlhalla'', the Rayman Update patch added numerous skins, items, and effects to the game. One of these is a new taunt called "Team Photo", which summons the photoboard from ''[[Rayman Origins|Origins]]'' and even the Photographer as he would have appeared in ''[[Rayman Origins]]''. The taunt can let all players, no matter if they are a teammate or opponent, join in the taunt.
