The Fortress of Sand was a location from Phoenix Studio’s cancelled Rayman 4. It is known only from concept art; unlike most of the other Rayman 4 environments, the Fortress of Sand has never appeared in any published Rayman game.
It appears that the Fortress of Sand was a vast and complex sand castle, rising from the waters near a beach, and including many towers, ramparts, turrets, walkways and islands. It was decorated with stones, seashells, flags and parasols. It seems that the colour palette of the level would have consisted mainly of sandy yellow and light blue.
It is not clear what role the Fortress of Sand would have played in the game, or whether it was inhabited by friends or enemies. Artwork shows armoured turtle guards carrying spears, and enslaved Teensies carrying buckets full of sand. Other, more indistinct, characters and creatures can also be seen.
One piece of artwork shows a lighthouse, known simply as the Light Tower, on the edge of the Fortress of Sand.
