Rayman with Raynette.

Raynette[1] is a female member of Rayman's species who is depicted in one of the two backstory mosaics unlocked by collecting relics in the PlayStation Vita version of Rayman Origins, as well as in The Art of Rayman Origins. She appears to have been the wife or girlfriend of Rayman, although she never made a physical appearance in the series.

According to the mosaic, Rayman used to be completely bald, living happily with Raynette. She appeared to have a strange fixation on his baldness, and is shown kissing the top of his bald head. One night, as Rayman was peacefully sleeping with Raynette on the forest floor, a colony of parasitic blonde hair creatures, named Mini-Villi, found Rayman and fused themselves to his scalp. When Raynette awakened, she was horrified to find her husband with a full head of hair, and produced a large pair of scissors. The hairs, fearing for their lives, began to pull on Rayman's head, dragging him over the edge of a cliff. As Rayman fell, they revealed their ability to act as a helicopter, flying him to safety. Raynette is never seen or mentioned again.

Since the backstory conflicts with other stories of Rayman's origin, and of how he received his iconic helicopter ability, it is unclear if it is true and whether Raynette ever existed.

Unused subtitles

The unused subtitles found in the game files for the cutscene involving Raynette are as follows:

They say Rayman was once as bald as a full moon on Rayday.

And Raynette loved him that way.

Meanwhile, the Mini-Villi set out in search of their promised land.

After centuries of wandering, desperate and delirious...

They came upon a snoozing couple...

A glorious sun rose over a land of perfect proportions...

‘Eureka!' said the mini-villus mini-king upon discovering Ray's shiny egg-head...

‘Home at last!!' cried the Mini-Villi, who threw down their bags and took root right then and there.

The Mini-Villi threw down their bags and took root then and there.

‘Eeek!' shrieked Raynette at the unsightly ‘do...

‘Ahhhh!' screamed Ray at the mini-invasion...

N/A

Running Rayman right over a cliff.

To his doom.

Or not. ‘Phew!', sighed Ray.

‘Your welcome!' replied the Mini-Villi, as Rayman glided into the sunset with Glade's best head of hair.
