Appearances

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Rabbid Mario is accidentally created when the Rabbids, along with their Time Washing Machine, end up in the laboratory of a Super Mario fan who is working on a visor called SupaMerge that can fuse objects. Rabbid Mario is born when a Rabbid puts on the SupaMerge and energy blasts from the visor collide with another Rabbid wearing Mario's cap. This event leads to the formation of Rabbid Peach and a Balloon Rabbid as well. These Rabbids, along with Beep-0, the inventor's robot companion, are then transported to the Mushroom Kingdom when a beam from the SupaMerge hits the Time Washing Machine and causes it to malfunction.

Upon their arrival in the Mushroom Kingdom, Rabbid Mario is frozen within a block of ice in Sherbet Desert. He remains trapped until Mario and his companions reach this location. While exploring the desert, the team encounters Toad, who requests their help in reuniting him with Toadette. This mission leads them to Rabbid Mario, still frozen. After battles and successful reunions, Rabbid Mario thaws out and meets Mario. He plays his mandolin to the Super Mario Bros. theme, forming an immediate bond, and joins the heroes' journey.

Throughout their adventure, the heroes triumph over challenges, ultimately defeating the Megabug, an entity which has possessed Bowser, and saving the Mushroom Kingdom.

Returning to Peach's Castle, the heroes celebrate their victory by unveiling a statue of Rabbid Peach and capturing the moment in a victory selfie.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Rabbid Mario returns in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. At Princess Peach's Castle, Mario and Rabbid Peach search for Rabbid Mario's missing overalls, leading him to hide in embarrassment. Upon their recovery, it is revealed that Rabbid Luigi had hidden them. The story unfolds as creatures called Sparks start falling from the sky and a flying manta ray made of Darkmess attacks, abducting Rabbid Peach. Mario and Beep-0 set out to rescue her, aided by a Spark named Starburst. As they are taken to Cursa, the main antagonist of the game, they are saved by Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Mario riding a spaceship called the WM ARC.

On Beacon Beach, the heroes meet a warrior Rabbid called Edge, whom Rabbid Mario develops a crush on despite her not sharing the sentiment. Rabbid Mario's attempts to impress her, such as crafting a large snow Rabbid and proclaiming them a great team, lead to humorous situations.

As their journey progresses across planets, they confront Cursa at its stronghold and defeat it, rescuing Rosalina. Returning to Peach's Castle, Rosalina praises everyone, including Bowser. However, Bowser remains unsatisfied. In a playful gesture, Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Peach, and Rabbid Luigi approach Bowser, prompting his fiery reaction that sends them flying.

Rayman in the Phantom Show

Main article: Rayman in the Phantom Show

Rabbid Mario is a protagonist in the DLC featuring Rayman, Rayman in the Phantom Show. After having received an invitation to the Space Opera Network in the form of a golden ticket, he travels there with Rabbid Peach and Beep-0, and quickly comes across Rayman at the Network Reception.

Rabbid Mario greets Rayman with a handshake, but falls unconscious when Rayman's hand is pulled from his body. Beep-0 then intervenes, assuring Rayman that they are not "run-off-the-mill Rabbids", but heroes. Before they can discuss the situation further, they are ambushed by Goombas and Stooges, and join forces against them.

Upon defeating the enemies, Rayman and the Rabbids introduce themselves to each other and find out that they have all received the same invitation. They praise each other's fighting abilities and decide to team up for the time being. Immediately afterwards, an elevator comes down into the room, and the Phantom comes out of it and towards them. Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach, recognizing the enemy they previously fought in the Spooky Trails area of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, are held back by Rayman as they try to attack him, and the Phantom reveals a bouquet of flowers, appeasing the Rabbids. He goes on to explain that he is now a changed person, no longer corrupted by the Megabug, and that he needs their help to restore the studio's ratings as his actors have left him. The Rabbids are instantly convinced by the Phantom's promises of fame and glory, and while Beep-0 is initially reluctant, he is eventually won over by flattery. The heroes are then tasked with performing in three different productions.

Once all three tasks have been completed, the Phantom congratulates them and asks the team to join him by the elevator in the Main TV Studio. They ascend to the Control Room, where the Phantom reveals his duplicity, explaining that he had been plotting his revenge the entire time and only manipulated the heroes into ridding the Space Opera Network of Darkmess. With the help of his newfound fame, as the studio is now number one in the galaxy, he intends to defeat the heroes as part of one last performance.

In battles reminiscent of when he was first encountered, the team eventually defeats the Phantom, destroying the spotlights that provide him with immunity. Beep-0 claims that he was never fooled by their old enemy's promises, but this is quickly dismissed by Rabbid Mario who reminds him that he has already fallen for it once.

Having found a functioning warp portal, Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach decide to head back to Princess Peach's castle, having not found the actor career much to their liking. Before leaving, Rabbid Mario hugs Rayman one last time.

Personality

Rabbid Mario possesses typical Rabbid traits such as playfulness, mischief, curiosity, and recklessness. He enjoys mimicking Mario, showcasing his strength, and exudes fearlessness and flamboyance. He eagerly embraces adventure and never shies away from challenges. A musical inclination is evident as he plays the mandolin, offering his rendition of the Super Mario Bros. theme.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope delves deeper into Rabbid Mario's personality. He becomes more exuberant, taking pride in his physical prowess and appearance. Rabbid Mario's attempts to woo Edge underscore his slightly romantic nature, even though he faces repeated failures. Despite his often underappreciated status, he remains steadfastly loyal to his companions.

Gameplay

Rabbid Mario is a powerful offense-oriented character, designated as a Brawler with high mobility and weak defense. He utilizes a Boomshot as his main weapon and a Melee as his secondary, making him effective at close-range combat and area assaults. His unique "Boom Dash" move creates shockwaves upon colliding with an opponent, impacting nearby allies and enemies alike, dealing a fraction of the primary target's damage. Noteworthy abilities include "Bodyguard," a safeguarding barrier that reduces damage from movement-based attacks, and "Magnet Dance," which draws nearby adversaries towards him. This Magnet Dance tactic can be strategically employed in conjunction with line-of-sight strategies, alongside other abilities or weapons causing status effects like Burn, Push, or Bounce. These tactics expose hidden enemies and deal additional damage. His Bodyguard skill pairs well with Peach's Protection, diminishing damage from both movement-related and weapon-based hits. Additionally, Rabbid Mario's Boom Dash can synergize with Mario's M-power, boosting its damage potential.

In the sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Rabbid Mario is now equipped with the Dukes, a pair of steel gauntlets generating shockwaves to hit enemies in cover. His new technique, Counter Blow, activates when an adversary attacks him.
