Purple Lum

A Purple Lum is one of the Lums that are found in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. These lums assure the cohesion of the world; without them, nothing would be solid or visible. Unlike the other Lums, this kind is shaped like a ring, and is used to help Rayman get through very wide spaces by grabbing onto them, which he was able to do after releasing Ly from her prison in the Fairy Glade. This makes them similar to the flying rings Rayman used in Rayman 1.
They are also seen in Rayman M where all the characters can use them. Their appearance changes though, as they don't have eyes.
The flying hooks in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc work in the same way as Purple Lums, but Rayman needs the Lockjaw to use them. In the Rayman 3 (GBA) version, purple lums have a similar hook attached to them as the ones in the main game, but to use them, a superpower is needed to be granted by Ly first. They also have a crown, and no wings or eyes.
