- This article is about the blue, venomous mosquitoes only depicted in artworks. For the species of giant flying insects encountered frequently throughout the series, see Mosquito.
Once Globox's original color, but he turned blue due to a misadventure involving a blue mosquito's eye and its similarity to a berry. Oh well, they say blue-ty is in the eye of the beholder.—Red Globox's in-game description, Rayman Mini
Blue mosquitoes[1], also known as bubeastubies[2] (which means "beasties" in Ubbi Dubbi) and mistakenly referred to as bees in Red Globox's description in Rayman Legends and Rayman Adventures, are a species of flying insects only depicted in the artbook The Art of Rayman Origins and a mosaic in the PlayStation Vita version of Rayman Origins. They are also mentioned in Red Globox's description in Rayman Legends, Rayman Adventures, and Rayman Mini (though the third game is the only one that references them by name). They are a smaller variety of mosquitoes with blue skin, purple eyes, and stingers on their backs that can inject venom into their victims, producing a bluish-purple boil on their skin.
The artwork tells the story of how Globox became blue. Before the incident, his skin was a red color similar to that of the Red Wizards (implying that he may have been one at some point). One day, the young Globox was eating the fruit of a "blubue buberruby bubush" (which means "blueberry bush" in Ubbi Dubbi); unbeknownst to him, this particular bush was home to a blue mosquito. Mistaking the eye for a berry, Globox ate the blue mosquito whole, prompting it to cry out from his stomach. Answering the cry was an entire swarm of blue mosquitoes that chased Globox and stung him at once, covering him in blue boils. Globox would heal from the attack, but the venom from the blue mosquitoes would seep into his skin and permanently turn him the blue color that he is today. According to the aforementioned set of unused subtitles for Globox's mosaic, the inhabitants of the Glade learned a valuable lesson that day: "always beat a buberruby bubush before stuffing one's belly..."
It is possible that other characters's skin can be turned blue if stung by enough blue mosquitoes, but this remains unclear.
