Jumping eyes are not the only disembodied eyeball enemies to appear in the Rayman series; in the original Rayman game, enemies known as lightning eyes appear. Unlike jumping eyes, these malevolent eyeballs come in pairs. They take a much more active approach to attacking Rayman; they blink tightly to shoot small bolts of lightning at him. Their eyelids are blue as opposed to the jumping eyes' green-brown colour. Usually lightning eyes are embedded in walls and are thus inaccessible, but occasionally they are found hovering in the open air. When in the latter state, they can be defeated with four punches from Rayman's telescopic fist, meaning that they have quadruple the resistance of jumping eyes.

Jumping eyes are a type of static enemy encountered in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Jumping eyes do not move or attack; they simply stay in one place, jumping up and down endlessly, making a sound like that that of a bounding ball. They hurt Rayman if he touches them. They can be destroyed by one hit from Rayman's magic fist. They seem to have some connection with Jano and the mini Janos; they resemble their cycloptic eyes, and are usually found in their territory.

They appear in the original version of Rayman 2, but not in Rayman Revolution or the PlayStation version of Rayman 2. In the versions where they do appear, they are encountered only three times: in front of the entrance to the Cave of Bad Dreams; the area inside the Cave of Bad Dreams where Rayman finds a blue Magic Sphere; and in the first part of the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava.

Jumping eyes are not the only disembodied eyeball enemies to appear in the Rayman series; in the original Rayman game, enemies known as lightning eyes appear.
