Voodoo Mamma's alter-ego: Big Mama.

Voodoo Mamma, also known in French as Mamma Hité, is a scrapped character or group of characters who was originally intended to appear in Rayman Origins. Judging by pre-release images and other material, Voodoo Mamma seems to be a middle-aged female member of Globox's species with dark-pink skin, three fronds of purple hair, and (depending on the artwork) either gold jewellery or voodoo bone bracelets. The fourth issue of The Daily Bubble focuses on Voodoo Mamma, and is the source of most information concerning her. This issue advertises some of her bizarre voodoo products. It also shows her standing in the village which lies on the Sea of Serendipity, fish in one hand, club in the other.

Voodoo Mamma's very close resemblance to Big Mama, the final boss of Rayman Origins, make it clear that she was originally intended to transform into this monstrous creature. In the final version of the game, however, Voodoo Mamma does not appear, and Big Mama instead reverts into a nymph called the Death Fairy when defeated. This nymph bears a resemblance to both Big Mama and Voodoo Mamma, with three tufts of purple hair and voodoo jewellery made of bone. It is not known why the developers chose to replace Voodoo Mamma with the nymph in this way.

In the final versions of both Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, Voodoo Mamma is referenced in some of the characters' descriptions, sometimes in the singular, but also sometimes in the plural, suggesting that the intention might have been for several Voodoo Mammas to exist, possibly as a female counterpart to the Red Wizards, a group of male magicians of Globox's species. Artwork showing a Voodoo Mamma in the Sea of Serendipity suggests that this place might have been inhabited by them rather than the Red Wizards, and that the latter might only have featured in Mystical Pique.

Additionally, in a dialogue cut from the final version of Rayman Origins, the Bubble Dreamer mentions Voodoo Mamma under her French name Mamma Hité, most likely because this line was not updated due to its removal from the game. The Bubble Dreamer comments on her good looks and wonders if she will ever 'take him back', suggesting that the two were once in a romantic relationship. The description for the 4th issue of The Daily Bubble also calls her Mamma Hité. This name is a pun on French cooking show presenter Maïté.
