Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a tactical role-playing game with turn-based combat. The game features characters from both the Rabbids and Mario series. In the game, the player has to fight Rabbids to free them.
Plot
The Rabbids, along with their Time Washing Machine, end up in the laboratory of a Super Mario fan who is working on a visor called SupaMerge that can fuse objects. One of the Rabbids finds the visor and starts fusing Rabbids with various Mario-related objects, leading to the formation of Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach. He also hits the Time Washing Machine, causing it to malfunction and send Beep-0, the inventor's robot companion, and the Rabbids to the Mushroom Kingdom.
In the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and his friends are sucked into a vortex and encounter the Rabbids. They team up with Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and others to fight against strange enemy creatures formed by the fusion, with the help of weapons sent to Beep-0 by someone called "F.B.". They also befriend a Rabbid called Spawny, who has powerful abilities.
As they travel through different areas, they discover a growing threat called the Megabug, which is linked to the fusion phenomenon. Bowser Jr. tries to take advantage of Spawny's powers but ends up causing more chaos. Mario's team faces various challenges, including battling Rabbid Kong, a giant Rabbid resembling Donkey Kong, and confronting Bowser Jr.'s Mecha Jr.
They receive messages from a mysterious helper who guides them to find relics to awaken a powerful being named "Tom Phan" to defeat Bowser Jr. Along the way, they face other villainous Rabbids resembling Wario and Waluigi, named Bwario and Bwaluigi, and one called the Lava Queen.
Finally, they reach Bowser's Castle, where Bowser gets fused with the Megabug, becoming MegaDragonBowser. After defeating MegaDragonBowser and destroying the Megabug, they close the rift and save Spawny. Bowser Jr. acknowledges his mistakes and promises to improve.
In the end, they send a letter to the past through the Time Washing Machine, revealing that the mysterious helper, "F.B.", was future Beep-0. The group celebrates their victory and inaugurates a statue of Rabbid Peach.
Gameplay
The game is a mix of exploration and turn-based combat, with approximately 35% exploration elements and 65% combat. It also offers a local co-op multiplayer mode. Combat is primarily weapon-based, featuring various weapon classes, including guns, warhammers, rocket launchers, rubber ducks, yo-yos, and deployable shuttles.
Exploration is guided by Beep-0, a helpful character that provides tips and assistance. There are seven enemy archetypes, and each world has a mid-boss and boss. The game features four different world environments with open-world exploring, which includes puzzle-solving elements.
Characters
In the game, the player forms a team of three characters, always including Mario and at least one Rabbid for balancing purposes. Each character has two weapons: a primary weapon that can be used every turn and a secondary weapon that requires cooling down between turns. They also have two Techniques, one of which is either a line-of-sight attack for Super Mario characters or a shield with varying properties for the Rabbids. The other technique provides a unique effect specific to each of the eight characters.
