- This article is about the creatures in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. For the amphibian enemies in Rayman Legends, see Toad (Rayman Legends).
Toads are a species of amphibious creatures found in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. They can be encountered in the Fairy Council and the Bog of Murk. Toads are commonly associated with the witch Bégoniax, one of the level's bosses. In her hut she has a cauldron of bubbling green potion, which transforms anyone who touches it into a toad. She uses this potion to exact revenge on men who reject her advances; she then breeds with them, producing a great number of tadpoles. Thus many of the toads found throughout the Bog of Murk may be Bégoniax's lovers, or their children.
In the Rayman 3 minigame Crush, the player controls Count Razoff as he uses his wrecking-ball to squash an infestation of toads which are invading his dungeon. This infestation is the result of a malevolent spell cast by Bégoniax. It is possible that some or all of these toads are Bégoniax's lovers or their offspring; indeed, Bégoniax herself appears in toad-form in this minigame. Though it is possible to kill her, more and more of these toads reappear.
In Rayman 2: The Great Escape, limbless, green, Rayman-like frogs can be found hopping on lily-pads in several levels, including the Woods of Light and the Fairy Glade.
In Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, when Globox is imprisoned by the Knaaren prior to Rayman's fight with Reflux, Gumsi refers to Globox as a ‘stupid toad’. It is unclear whether Globox actually is a toad; Gumsi may have been mistaken, or using the term in a derogatory sense. If Globox is indeed some sort of toad, then so are Uglette, Globbette, Dark Globox and all of the baby Globoxes. It should be noted, however, that the Globoxes look considerably different from the toads which appear in the Bog of Murk, so it is highly unlikely that they are the same species.
A different, more anthropomorphic kind of Toad makes an appearance in the magical paintings in Rayman Legends. These members of the species present a more hostile behavior and act as enemies, carrying weapons and invading small towns populated by Teensies.
