‘Well, I say that you are a thief! A thief and a liar, to boot! Prepare to die!’ — Foutch, Rayman 2: The Great Escape (PlayStation version)

Foutch is a boss in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. He is the Guardian of the third mask of Polokus, which is found Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava (Lava Sanctuary in Rayman Revolution), and is the most aggressive of the Guardians. It was revealed by the Grand Minimus in the PlayStation version that Foutch isn't supposed to be very aggressive, but the destruction of the Heart of the World has driven him insane.

Role on the games

Regardless of which version of Rayman 2 the player plays, Foutch's part is always the same (with the exception of Rayman 2 Forever where he and the other guardians are all ommitted). He appears near the end of his level and punches Rayman, surprising the hero and causing him to tumble into Foutch's arena, stripped him of his super-heli power in the progress. Down below, the fight begins (In the PS version Rayman tries, unsuccessfully, to reason with the guardian first).

Foutch recieves a direct mention in the PS version of the game prior to his actual appearance, when the Grand Minimus explains how Foutch was driven mad by the Heart's destruction, and how Ly unsuccessfully tried to snap him out of it.

Strategy

Foutch begins his attack on Rayman by punching him with enough force to make him lose his flying power which he had just been given by Ly. He would then chase Rayman and throw horizontal and vertical beams of fire in an attempt to burn him. He can be defeated by having stalactites broken off and falling on top of him like with Axel, though this time it would take three times to defeat him. He is the only Guardian to bear a large number of Red Lums upon his defeat.
