Spiky flowers[2] are enemy plants encountered in Rayman Origins, Rayman Jungle Run, Rayman Legends, Rayman Adventures, Rayman Mini, and Rayman: The Board Game.

Appearances

Rayman Origins

In Rayman Origins, spiky flowers appear in the Jibberish Jungle and the Ticklish Temples. They come in dark-blue and dark-green varieties. Each flower is surrounded by spikes, and has a large red eye which follows the player characters across the screen.

Multiple dark-blue flowers are usually connected to a single plant, which sprouts from a single blue bulb. By striking this, the player can instantly cause all flowers to snap shut like Venus flytraps and retract into the plant, clearing the way. Striking the bulb again causes the spiky flowers to return. Dark-green flowers, on the other hand, are never connected to a bulb.

Rayman Jungle Run

In Rayman Jungle Run, dark green spiky flowers can be found. They sometimes come out of blue and purple bulbs, and appear in the following levels:

Rayman Legends

In Rayman Legends, spiky flowers appear in Teensies In Trouble, Toad Story and the Back to Origins levels. Their appearance is different: now their eye is white with a red pupil, and they come in a light-blue and a light-green variation.

Spiky flowers can be found in three different states. In the first one, with their eye open, they always have spikes. In the second one, their eye is now closed, but they still sport spikes. Finally, in the third state, their eye is closed, and their spikes are retracted: they can then be used as bouncy platforms. In the Winds of Strange, Altitude Quickness, and the PlayStation Vita-exclusive level Bounce to the sky, Murfy can poke the spiky flowers with an open eye, causing them to close it and retract their spikes, and allowing them to be used as bumpers.

In the Back to Origins levels, the appearance of spiky flowers is also changed to match that of the rest of the game.

Rayman Adventures

In Rayman Adventures, light-green spiky flowers are found in Toad Story. Their eye is always closed, and while some have spikes, others don't, leaving them to be used as bouncy platforms.

Rayman Mini

Timing is everything, especially when rushing head-on towards a big spiky flower!
—Loading screen tutorial, Rayman Mini

In Rayman Mini, tiny spiky flowers can be found in the River Stream, the Rabbit Hole, the Swamp, the Foliage and the Bonus world. Like in Rayman Adventures, some have spikes and some don't, but their eye is always closed. The spiky ones are sometimes connected to a green bulb. They come in the previously encountered light-green variation, as well as a new, red variation.

Another addition is that some of the spiky flowers in the game sport arms similar to those of Swingmen and allow Rayman to reach otherwise inaccessible places.

Rayman: The Board Game

In Rayman: The Board Game, blue spiky flowers appear as obstacles on the Teensies In Trouble board, and pink spiky flowers appear alongside spiky snakes as obstacles on the Fiesta de los Muertos board.

Notes and references

  1. In Rayman Origins and the Back to Origins mode, they can be hidden by shooting the bulb from which they grow. By shooting it again, they will reappear.
  2. The name is found in the game files and a loading screen tutorial from Rayman Mini.
