Plot
Rayman and the Baby Globoxes are having a picnic in a forest when three Rabbids erupt from the ground, capturing the Baby Globoxes. Rayman tries to offer them food, but then Serguei comes and grabs Rayman. The Rabbids take Rayman and the Baby Globoxes to their coliseum and keep them in jail cells.

Rayman tries to offer them food, but then Sergueï comes and grabs Rayman. The Rabbids take Rayman and the baby Globoxes to their Colosseum and hold them in jail cells.

In order to escape, Rayman must collect plungers to build a ladder up to the window so he can jump out. He does this by taking part in trials to entertain the Rabbids. After trials, Rayman is rewarded with a plunger and is taken back to his jail cell to get some rest for the next day's lot of trials. As he goes on, Rayman's cell is decorated to look nicer and he wins more costumes and songs. After every day, he goes to the ladder of plungers, looking at the window hoping to escape, but a bird always comes and poops on him. After fifteen days, Rayman finally collects enough plungers and escapes, getting his revenge on the annoying bird on the way. Back at the forest, Rayman sees sheep eating the remains of the picnic and remembers he forgot the Baby Globoxes. He tries to go back through a hole in which they were captured through but ends up stuck.

Gameplay
When starting up the game, the player will be brought to the game's main menu, where various options can be selected. The names of these options differ among the various ports of this game.

Story mode
During all 15 days Rayman has to move around the Colosseum and complete at least three out of the first four minigames that are present, with the fourth minigame always containing a rhythm game. Once three of the four games are completed, Rayman can go and complete the last game. This game is either a plunger shooting game, a warthog racing game, or a skydiving game (Day 9 only). Once the challenge is completed, Rayman earns a plunger and goes back to his cell. This also marks the end of the day. Once Rayman has completed the third day, he will begin to build a ladder to escape through a window that is within his cell. Each day also has a unique set of minigames.

Rayman can perform various activities in his cell. He can look up at the aforementioned window and try to reach it, though will fail until he obtains enough plungers to climb on. He can also sit on the toilet and replay the minigames that he had already played (with the exceptions of the on-rails shooters, the warthog races, and Bunnies Only Fly Downwards). Along with that, he can also visit the jukebox and listen to specific songs in the game. He can also visit the costume wardrobe and alter his appearance. If Rayman wants to start a new day and play new minigames and earn more plungers, he can go to the large door within his cell to return to the Colosseum and complete the minigames for the new day. The player is unable to start a new day once the 15th day has been completed.

After the 15th day, Rayman uses the plungers that he had previously obtained to complete the ladder and climb up to the window in his cell and escape. This marks the end of the story mode.

Rayman: Rayman was taken by surprise by this invasion from within. What do the Rabbids intend to do? It's hard to say.
Score mode
But now they're everywhere and their atypical psyches make them formidable and unpredictable opponents.
Day 1 of story mode must be completed to access this. When selected, the player will be asked to insert their name, followed by a screen that lets them customize the Rayman that they are playing as. Once finished, the player will be brought to a screen that will allow for three extra players to join. When joining, they will also be asked to insert their name and to customize their Rayman. After every player is ready, they can select one of four minigame categories. These minigame categories contain and organize every minigame within the game, some of which contain subcategories and unique modes of specific minigames. The player(s) can then select any minigame of their choice, as long as the minigame has already been completed in the story mode. Each minigame also has its own leaderboard that shows the top 3 best scores for said minigame. The minigame categories, subcategories and modes are as follows:

A Few Rabbids...
* Bunny hunt! - Contains the on-rails shooter minigames that are found at the end of most days within the story mode.
** Round - Players can either play by themselves or with another person, where each person takes turns playing a singular round.
*** Survival - Unlocked after getting onto the in-game leaderboard for every minigame in the time mode. Each minigame requires the player to get the highest score that they can get without taking any damage.
*** Scores - Each minigame requires the player to get the highest score that they can get.
*** Time - Unlocked after getting onto the in-game leaderboard for every minigame in the scores mode. Each minigame requires the player to win as quickly as they can.
** Multi - Allows for multiple players to play the bunny hunt minigames together at the same time.
*** Versus - Players play together and compete against each other for the highest score.
*** Score coop - Each minigame requires the players to work together and get the highest score that they can get.
*** Time coop - Each minigame requires the players to work together and win as quickly as they can.
* Sports - Contains various minigames that fall under unique subcategories.
** Workout - Consists of minigames that require significant amounts of physical energy.
** Precision - Consists of minigames that mainly rely on carefulness and accuracy.
** Get going! - Consists of the warthog racing minigames that are found at the end of a few days in the story mode, along with Bunnies Only Fly Downwards.
** Skill - Consists of minigames that mainly rely on practice and being proficient with said minigames.
* Challenges - Story mode must be completed in order to unlock this. Contains 6 triathlons that are each worth 3,000 points, 4 pentathlons that are each worth 5,000 points, and 3 decathlons that are each worth 10,000 points. Triathlons contain 3 minigames, pentathlons contain 5 minigames, and decathlons contain 10 minigames. The minigames that are within each challenge must be completed in succession, and the player will need to restart the challenge if they want to redo a minigame.
* Shake your booty! - Contains the rhythm minigames that can be found during each day in the story mode.

Pink: Pink is mute and timid. Yet, with just a little patience you can easily learn the basics of his method of communication and understand what he says. For example, "Hey mate!! What's up?" is translated, in his language, by firing a heat-seaking missile. (It is true that, long term, you could say that all he really knows how to say is "Hey mate!! What's up?").
Score mode contains its own point tally, where the player can supposedly get a maximum total of 183,000 points. Each minigame is worth 1,000 points, and 65,000 points can be obtained if the player were to get 1,000 points for each of these minigames. 68,000 more points can be obtained through the challenges. The remaining 50,000 points are obtained through the unique modes that are present in bunny hunt (with the exception of the versus mode). However, it is impossible to obtain 183,000 points due to various minigames being impossible to obtain 1,000 points on. The points that are obtained in score mode will unlock bonuses in the bonus menu.

Serguei: Serguei is a softy. Out of pure coquetry, he wears a delightful, finely worked metal muzzle. His joie de vivre and his strong sense of repartee make him a very pleasant companion. He's always ready to keep things light and lively with little tricks, such as grinding phalanxes, switching your clavicles, or even playing "this little piggy" with your toes.
The minigames that are either borderline or outright impossible to get 1,000 points on include:

Professor Barranco: Professor Barranco is a scientist. He is currently writing a very complex thesis on thermodynamics and the resistance of certain materials. For the moment, he is accumulating certain certain experimental data, firstly, on their resistance of cranial bones to the impact of a bludgeon, and secondly, the resistance to high temperatures generated by the explosion of booby-trapped gifts.
* Bunny hunt! (multi, time coop)
** Bunnies Don't Like Being Disturbed On Holiday - Impossible on PC. It is impossible to move quickly enough in order to complete the minigame by the 2'35"00 requirement.
* Sports
** Workout
*** Bunnies Don't Give Gifts - Borderline impossible on PC. Rayman will need to move extremely quickly in order to reach Professor Barranco at the end of the course before the clock reaches 24 seconds.
*** Bunnies Are Addicted To Carrot Juice - Impossible on Xbox 360. The lower framerate does not allow for the carrot juice to shoot far enough and for the cursor to move quickly enough to immediately point at the Frog-Rabbids when they begin to abundantly appear, which makes surviving until the 2'10"00 requirement impossible. However, this minigame is possible to complete when playing on an Xbox One due to the increased framerate allowing for the carrot juice to shoot further and the cursor to move more quickly.
*** Bunnies Can't Fly and Bunnies Can't Fly (Part 2) - Borderline impossible on Xbox One. The higher framerate does not allow for the cart to gain enough speed before launching Clark the Superbunny into the air.
** Precision
*** Bunnies Are Heartless With Pigs - Impossible on PC. Rayman cannot move fast enough to complete the minigame in under 10 seconds.
*** Bunnies Can't Slide - Borderline impossible on PC. It is extremely difficult to have under 0.15 meters by the end of all three rounds.
** Skill
*** Bunnies Have A Poor Grasp Of Anatomy - Impossible on every port. It is currently impossible to get a 100% score for any of the position variables, and it is extremely difficult to gain a 100% score for every angle variable.
* Shake your booty! - The more advanced minigames are borderline impossible on Xbox One. The higher framerate causes the music and the Rabbids to desync, which makes timing Rayman's dance moves very difficult.
** Bunninos Dansa La Bamba, Bunninos Dansa La Bamba (Part 2), and Bunnies Are Fantastic Dancers (Part 3) - Impossible on Wii, PlayStation 2, and PC. Lacks enough Rabbids to obtain the maximum point requirement.

The frog-rabbids: The frog-Rabbids are part of the elite commando team. They are formidable combatants. They are systematically sent out on the most dangerous missions, such as assaults on carrot juice bars, infiltrating a popular chorus or even maintaining the peace in front of the toilets.
Family mode
Exclusive to the PC version of the game. Day 1 of story mode must be completed to access this. Family mode functions similarly to score mode. When selected, the player will be asked to get someone to gather around their computer to play with them. The game will then ask for the player's name and will allow for them to customize Rayman. Afterwards, the player will be brought into the sports category of minigames, where they'll be allowed to play a small amount of minigames from the Workout, Get going! and Skill subcategories, though the Precision subcategory is inaccessible. Each of these minigames have controls that are different from the regular controls. This is so that they can be accustomed to the addition of an extra player.

Clark: Clark is not a Rabbid like the others. His Super-powers enable him to accomplish feats that gain him respect and admiration from everyone. He is the inventor and the undisputed champion of a new kind of biathlon (the consecutive combo: Descending Flight + Vertical Subterranean Race).
The available subcategories and minigames can be seen below:
His personal record: 2300 DF + 47cm VSR

Rayman 4
* Workout
Rayman Raving Rabbids was first announced at E3 2006. It was shown to be a completely different game: an action-platformer which would be Rayman 4, and it would include the minigames as bonuses. Michel Ancel was originally in charge of this game, but after he'd done the important parts, he let the rest of team carry on so he could start on some other projects. While he was gone, the team, for some reason, decided to ditch the whole platformer part and just include the minigames.

The official description is this:
If the player hovers their mouse over an inaccessible minigame, the following message will be displayed at the top of the screen:

Beware of the Rabbids!

In Rayman’s world, there once lived sweet little cute rabbits that were constantly victimized by more
ferocious animals. One day, they disappeared from the Earth’s surface, secretly planning their massive
invasion. Armed with enormous war machines, they have now returned to enslave Rayman’s world and
get their final revenge!

Combat the Ultra-Crazed Evil Rabbits - Take control of Rayman and his knack for attack to help save his world from the Raving Rabbids. They are mischievous, insane and completely out of control. There are several types of Rabbids each with its own mischievous characteristics.
Minigames
In total, there are 75 minigames, some of which have second and third parts. A total of five of these can be played during each day that Rayman is held prisoner at the Colosseum.

Master and Ride Creatures - Tame and control various creatures such as sharks, eagles, rhinos, spiders and angelfish. Rayman can master each animal's unique capabilities to help in his battle against the devious rabbits.
Bunny hunts
The bunny hunts are first person on-rails shooter minigame in which Rayman, armed with a plunger gun, has to shoot any Rabbids that he sees and free the baby Globox that they have trapped and not lose all of his health, which can be depleted if either a Rabbid gets too close to him, he gets shot with a plunger, or is attacked by rockets or carrot juice coming from the robots. The plunger gun can carry up to five plungers, and if they are all used, he will have to reload. Rayman is also armed with a grapple chain, which he can use to either ward off plunger attacks or grab a Rabbid that is close and toss it at other Rabbids, earning a multiple score.

Dress to Impress - Customize and disguise Rayman. Go punk, pop, rock or hip hop to infiltrate the bunnies and foil their devious plans.
Rayman can get extra points by doing specific shots:
* Good shot - shooting the third Rabbid without reloading - 300 points.
* Great shot - shooting the fourth Rabbid without reloading - 400 points.
* Perfect shot - shooting the fifth Rabbid without reloading - 500 points.
* Bullseye - shooting a Rabbid which is far away.

Explore the Colorful Fantastic World of Rayman - Explore amazing free-roaming environments and beautiful epic landscapes that mix real and fantastical styles to create a visually stunning experience.
Several other objects can be shot with plungers, such as radios and bells, which often distract the Rabbids into dancing, and are present in each level once. There are also several boxes which Rayman can break in order to gain power ups or power downs. These are:

Not much is known about Rayman 4, but there are some things that were hinted or confirmed:
* Extra lives - as the name says, it gives Rayman 3 extra lives.
* Lums would be back.
* Rapid shot - it gives Rayman the ability to shoot 3 plungers rapidly after each other for a short time. It also automatically reloads when the 3 plungers have been shot, except if the player instantly shoots another plunger.
* Globox, Ly, Murfy, and the Teensies would return.
* 5X shot - it gives Rayman the ability to shoot all plungers at once for a short time. Needs instant reload after the plungers have been shot.
* Andre would return and make an alliance with Rayman.
* 1000 Points - gives the player 1000 points.
* Rayman had to save his girlfriend, his old enemy, and his old enemy's girlfriend.
* Broken Plungers - This power down breaks all plungers for a short time.
* Ly would be Rayman's girlfriend.
* From the screenshots, you can tell that all the worlds would have been dark.
* There was going to be ten worlds.
* The Rabbids had been planning the invasion since the events of Rayman 1.

There had been brief gameplay clips of the original Rayman 4 prior to the change shown, and it could be seen that costumes would've been used similarly to the powers seen in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Some of the concepts seen were applied to Rayman Raving Rabbids as well. For example, in one minigame in Rayman Raving Rabbids, Rayman must throw a cow attached to a chain a certain distance by spinning in place in a circular motion. The Rock Costume in the original Rayman 4 was seen to also have Rayman swinging a chain in a circular motion as in the minigame, though using it as an attack instead.

Some fans hope that Ubisoft will one day release this version but with different enemies instead of the Rabbids. The Rabbids have gained a somewhat negative look with veterans of the series due to the focus on the sub-series without another Rayman action title in the near future.
The following is a list of the bunny hunts.

After the cancellation of the original Rayman 4, Ubisoft began work on Rayman Raving Rabbids. It was intended to be a free-roaming 3D platformer, contrary to the final party game release. Rayman would have instead had to defeat an army of sinister, zombie-like Rabbids in melee combat, rather than competing in minigames to escape them.

The Rabbids are getting ready to put into motion the plot that they have been preparing for years. Rayman is having a lovely picnic with the baby Globoxes when the Rabbids suddenly rise up from the ground, kidnap them all and imprison them. Rayman is thrown into an enourmous arena, under the gaze of a hostile crowd of Rabbids. From this day on, and solely for their own amusement, the Rabbids are going to make Rayman go through a series of trials. It is up to you to win them all and free Rayman.

Rayman Raving Rabbids, known in Japan as Rabbids Party, is the first video game in the Rabbids spin-off series. It was released for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 2 and PC in 2006, followed by a port for the Microsoft Xbox 360 in 2007. It is followed by Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 in 2007, Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party in 2008, Rabbids Go Home in 2009 and Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time in 2010.

Plot

Rayman and a few baby Globoxes are enjoying a picnic in a forest when three Rabbids erupt from the ground, capturing the baby Globoxes.

After completing at least 3 of the four daily trials, the final challenge will unlock. Finishing that will reward Rayman with a plunger after which he is taken back to his jail cell to get some rest for the next day's lot of trials. As the days pass, Rayman's cell is decorated to look nicer. In the cell he is able to play music, change costumes and replay previous challenges. If all four challenges are finished in one day he is rewarded with more costumes and songs.

Characters

Rayman and the Rabbids are the main characters in the game. Also included are the baby Globoxes, the only returning characters besides Rayman, the Rabbids henchmen, strange creatures that look like a cross between rhinos and elephants and some animals, who only serve as fillers.

The good guys

The Rabbids

  • Clark - Clark is a regular Rabbid that's dressed up to make himself look like Superman. Like Professor Barranco, he appears in several of the minigames Rayman participates in.

Popular culture references

  • Clark the Super Rabbid is a reference to Superman. His name, Clark, is a reference Superman's human name Clark Kent.
  • Rayman's gun that shoots plungers may be a reference to the game Quackshot, where the protagonist also has a gun that shoots plungers.
  • Rayman's Rock 'n' Roll costume references Elvis Presley.
  • The rabbids who act as spies are a reference to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
  • Most of the songs in the jukebox and the Shake Your Booty! minigames are “Rabbidized” remixes of licensed music.
  • The level Bunnies Think They're In A Movie parodies 1930s Hollywood. In the same level there is a portrait that parodies Abraham Lincoln as a rabbid.
  • In a bonus movie, there is a concept art of a rabbid that resembles Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.
  • In Rayman's jail cell, there is a painting reading "ceci n'est pas une carotte", which is a parody of the famous painting The Treachery of Images by René Magritte.
  • In a bonus video, the X-rabbits is a reference to X-men.
  • In a bonus video, there is a reference to the bat-signal from Batman.
  • In a bonus video, the rabbids in a box for a spy operation are a reference to Metal Gear.
  • A music track from The Ninth Symphony by Beethoven can be heard in the level Bunnies have a great ear for music.
  • Another track from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi can also be heard.

Gameplay

Rayman in the Colosseum.

The lists of days and their respective minigames can be seen below:

Score mode

  • Bunny hunt! - Contains the on-rails shooter minigames that are found at the end of most days within the story mode.
    • Round - Players can either play by themselves or with another person, where each person takes turns playing a singular round.
      • Survival - Unlocked after getting onto the in-game leaderboard for every minigame in the time mode. Each minigame requires the player to get the highest score that they can get without taking any damage.
      • Scores - Each minigame requires the player to get the highest score that they can get.
      • Time - Unlocked after getting onto the in-game leaderboard for every minigame in the scores mode. Each minigame requires the player to win as quickly as they can.
    • Multi - Allows for multiple players to play the bunny hunt minigames together at the same time.
      • Versus - Players play together and compete against each other for the highest score.
      • Score coop - Each minigame requires the players to work together and get the highest score that they can get.
      • Time coop - Each minigame requires the players to work together and win as quickly as they can.
  • Sports - Contains various minigames that fall under unique subcategories.
    • Workout - Consists of minigames that require significant amounts of physical energy.
    • Precision - Consists of minigames that mainly rely on carefulness and accuracy.
    • Get going! - Consists of the warthog racing minigames that are found at the end of a few days in the story mode, along with Bunnies Only Fly Downwards.
    • Skill - Consists of minigames that mainly rely on practice and being proficient with said minigames.
  • Challenges - Story mode must be completed in order to unlock this.
  • Shake your booty! - Contains the rhythm minigames that can be found during each day in the story mode.

The minigames that are either borderline or outright impossible to get 1,000 points on include:

  • Bunny hunt! (multi, time coop)
  • Sports
    • Workout
      • Bunnies Don't Give Gifts - Borderline impossible on PC. Rayman will need to move extremely quickly in order to reach Professor Barranco at the end of the course before the clock reaches 24 seconds.
      • Bunnies Are Addicted To Carrot Juice - Impossible on Xbox 360.
      • Bunnies Can't Fly and Bunnies Can't Fly (Part 2) - Borderline impossible on Xbox One. The higher framerate does not allow for the cart to gain enough speed before launching Clark the Superbunny into the air.
    • Precision
    • Skill
      • Bunnies Have A Poor Grasp Of Anatomy - Impossible on every port. It is currently impossible to get a 100% score for any of the position variables, and it is extremely difficult to gain a 100% score for every angle variable.
  • Shake your booty! - The more advanced minigames are borderline impossible on Xbox One. The higher framerate causes the music and the Rabbids to desync, which makes timing Rayman's dance moves very difficult.

The available subcategories and minigames can be seen below:

If the player hovers their mouse over an inaccessible minigame, the following message will be displayed at the top of the screen:

Where do you think you're going? Don't you know this game is not available in this mode?

Minigames

In total, there are 75 minigames, some of which have second and third parts. A total of five of these can be played during each day that Rayman is held prisoner at the Colosseum.

Rayman can get extra points by doing specific shots:

  • Good shot - shooting the third Rabbid without reloading - 300 points.
  • Great shot - shooting the fourth Rabbid without reloading - 400 points.
  • Perfect shot - shooting the fifth Rabbid without reloading - 500 points.
  • Bullseye - shooting a Rabbid which is far away.

Several other objects can be shot with plungers, such as radios and bells, which often distract the Rabbids into dancing, and are present in each level once. There are also several boxes which Rayman can break in order to gain power ups or power downs. These are:

  • Extra lives - as the name says, it gives Rayman 3 extra lives.

Game records

Main article: List of Rayman records

Rayman Raving Rabbids has a score mode, with minigames which unlock as they are completed in the story mode.

Internet connection

At the end of each minigame in score mode, there is an internet code for the player to submit their game score on the now defunct RaymanZone website. Each code was unique to tell which score is the player's on the website listed above. Each minigame page listed the top 3 players in each minigame. Since the release of Rayman Legends, RaymanZone redirects to the official Ubisoft website.

Development

Main article: Rayman Raving Rabbids (cancelled prototype)

After the cancellation of the original Rayman 4, Ubisoft began work on Rayman Raving Rabbids. It was intended to be a free-roaming 3D platformer, contrary to the final party game release. Rayman would have instead had to defeat an army of sinister, zombie-like Rabbids in melee combat, rather than competing in minigames to escape them.
