—Flaming Teensy, Rayman Origins

The Flaming Teensy is a playable Teensy character in Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends and Rayman Mini and the main antagonist in Rayman Mini.

Description

It seems that the Flaming Teensy was originally a regular Teensy king, or perhaps even one of the four Grand Minimus. As mentioned by the Bubble Dreamer, he was tortured by the inhabitants of the Infernal Kitchen in the Gourmand Land. He has crooked teeth, a broken nose and several physical anomalies, like claws on his fingers, red eyes, chest hair and light-green skin; his crown also seems to be deformed. Seeing his appearance, the Bubble Dreamer motivates him to stay positive, then retires him from his reign and suggests him to go see the world. He wears a black coat with fire patterns and has a physically altered body.

Role in the games

Rayman Origins

I warned you not to mess with Chilli Pepper gang down at Infernal Kitchens! They force-fed you farting beans and hot sauce and now look at you! I hereby retire you! Go see the world! May you snore loudly!

In Rayman Origins he is unlocked once 80 Electoons have been collected. Unlike most of the unlockable characters in Rayman Origins, the Flaming Teensy plays a substantial role in-game. He can be found on the level-selection map of each world, standing alongside the entrances to the Tricky Treasure chase levels. His role is simply to tell the player how many Electoons are required to access these levels. The Flaming Teensy is the only playable character to feature full dialogues; he speaks in Pig Latin and some sort of country accent. For unknown reasons, when the player plays as the Flaming Teensy, a clone of this character can still be seen on the world map indicating the locations of the Tricky Treasures. It is possible that there are many Flaming Teensies in the Glade.

During earlier development, the Flaming Teensy was intended to have a Frosty Delight-themed counterpart, who at the same time, was supposed to act as the Teensy Queen's male counterpart. This character was scrapped in the final version of the game.

Rayman Legends

This Teensy King has spent too much time in the Infernal Kitchens and now he just loves spicy food and flames. Please don't lend him any matches!
—In-game description, Rayman Legends

In Rayman Legends he is unlocked once 350 000 Lums have been collected on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions, 400 000 Lums on the PlayStation 4 version, 440 000 Lums on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions and 550 000 Lums on the Xbox One version. It is also revealed that despite of all of his negative experiences in the Infernal Kitchen, the Flaming Teensy still adores spicy food and flames.

Rayman Adventures

Although he does not appear in Rayman Adventures, his files have been found in the game.

Rayman Mini

The Flaming Teensy is first seen in Rayman Mini in the trailer where he casts a spell on Rayman, making him shrink in size for unknown reasons. The premise of the game is that Rayman must traverse the available worlds to find a way to reverse the spell.

While the intro is never shown in the game, the Flaming Teensy is the final boss, appearing in the very last level, "High-Hanging Fruit" of the Bonus world. When he emerges, levitating above the ground, he tries to smash through a wall to reach Rayman and his friends, letting out a beastly cry. Thereafter, still levitating, he chases the heroes by attacking them as soon as he has the opportunity. He projects a powerful blast from his mouth to send them against spikes and launches spherical, electric projectiles at them. In his last appearance, where he sends out several electric spheres at the same time, his face is distorted with hatred and madness.

In the 1.2.0 update he was added to the game as a playable character, unlocked for 15 Swag Coins.

Trivia

  • The Flaming Teensy is the second Teensy to become a antagonist in a Rayman game, after the Magician. However, whereas the latter gave reasons for his villainy in content that was cut from the final version of his game, the Flaming Teensy's motivations are unknown.
  • When fought as a boss in "High-Hanging Fruit", the last level of the Bonus world, the Flaming Teensy initially has a smaller head than his playable counterpart. A possible reason for this is that the bigger head did not fit on the screen.
