Brawlhalla is a free-to-play fighting game developed and published by Blue Mammoth Games, which would later be acquired by Ubisoft, and released in 2017. Rayman appears as a playable character in the game, while Globox, Barbara, and other characters from the Rayman series appear as skins or items.

Gameplay

The goal of most of Brawlhalla's game modes is to launch opponents into any of the four blastzones, or off-screen areas, similarly to Super Smash Bros. games. The more damage a character takes, the easier it is for them to be launched. If a character is sent into a blastzone, they lose a stock and are respawned back onto the stage. Winning criteria varies depending on the game mode, though typically the last player standing wins.

Rayman content

In November 2018, Rayman was added to Brawlhalla with patch 3.32. The character came with three skins to play as: Raymesis, Sir Rayelot, and Raydvar, a newly introduced member of Rayman's species who resembles Bödvar, another playable character from the game. Globox and Barbara were also introduced as skins for the characters Cassidy and Brynn, respectively. In addition to this, a Knockout Effect featuring Grunderbite, a Lum King sidekick, a Spellbound Tree podium, a new taunt featuring the Photographer, and a new Kung Foot mode were added. According to the lore in the character selection screen, Rayman was sent out by Polokus to find the Horn of Lums needed to defeat Mr Dark who had returned. He then found the Grand Tournament of Valhalla which has the Horn of Lums as one the prizes, making him enter the competition without hesitation. It is unknown if Rayman ever retrieved the Horn of Lums.

In October 2021, a new skin for Rayman called Ray of the Dead was made available for purchase during the "Brawlhalloween" event.

In April 2022, it was revealed that patch 6.06 would include content like new emoji skins (a Rayman Wave emoji skin can be seen) and a B-ballin' Emote, in which characters play with a basket ball; in Rayman's case, he plays with his torso. In May 2022, to celebrate Street Fighter's 35th anniversary and the inclusion of new characters to the game, a trailer was presented which featured Rayman and Globox.

In March 2025, Brawlhalla released the Azoth's Ascension Battle Pass, featuring taunts where 2 of them include unique variations when using with Rayman, Globox and Barbara. These taunts are called "Pok-ta-pok", where Rayman plays with his torso (similar to his variant of the "B-Ballin'" taunt) instead of a ōllamaloni, and "Relic of the Lost Temple" in which Rayman, Globox, and Barbara replace the treasure with a Plum.

In September 2025, to celebrate Rayman's 30th anniversary, Brawlhalla announced Super Metal Rayman along with the Forest Dragon sidekick, the Murfy companion, 3 new emojis of Rayman, Globox and Barbara, an avatar featuring "Classic Rayman", a title reward "YEAH!!!", a new "Enchanted Forest" realm for the Kung Foot and Free-For-All game modes, and a new UI Menu Theme.

References to the Rayman series

The game features several references to the Rayman series in addition to the in-game content.

• The Rabbids are referenced through Rayman's default Gauntlets, the "Rabbid Boppers," and in Super Metal Rayman's description.
• Globox and Super Metal Rayman's descriptions mention the Robo-Pirates from Rayman 2.
• The Ray of the Dead skin may be based on the Mariachi skin from Rayman Raving Rabbids.
• The Super Metal Rayman skin is based on Rayman's appearance with the Heavy Metal Fist from Rayman 3, using the titular fists for his Gauntlets.
• Super Metal Rayman uses the guitar from promotional artwork for Rayman Legends as his Axe.
  • The guitar is called the "Castle Rocker," referencing the Castle Rock music level from Rayman Legends.
• The Forest Dragon sidekick's description references the Teensies In Trouble world from Rayman Legends, which is where these dragons originally appeared.
• The "Classic Rayman" avatar features Rayman's face from the original Rayman game.
  • Its description reads "Ready to party like it's 1995," referencing the year that the original Rayman game released.
• The "Yeah!!!" title references the jingle that plays upon clearing an area in the original Rayman game. It has also become a sort of catchphrase for Rayman, since he has exclaimed it in every mainline game since then.
• The description for the Spellbound Tree podium mentions the Dream Forest from the original Rayman game.
• The "Team Photo" taunt features the photoboard from Rayman Origins and the Photographer's scrapped appearance from the same game.
• One of Murfy's animations has him read the Manual from Rayman 3.
• Rayman's "B-Ballin'" emote has him use his torso in place of a basketball, similarly to his idle animations in the first and second Rayman games.
• Globox uses mosquitoes in place of guns and wields Selena's weapon, called "Selena's Smasher," as his Axe.
• Barbara uses Aurora's spear as one of her weapons.
• Raymesis uses Psychlops-themed Gauntlets.
• The Enchanted Forest realm is based on the Teensies In Trouble world in Rayman Legends.
• One of Rayman's attacks while wielding an Axe has him slide along the ground with it in a similar manner to how Barbara and her relatives do in Rayman Legends and its spin-offs.
• Another one of Rayman's attacks with the Axe has him bounce off of a mushroom and attack while collecting yellow and purple Lums.
  • While wearing the Super Metal Rayman skin, he instead bounces off of a Champibumper and collects Fire Lums, a type of Lum that was scrapped from Rayman Origins.
• Another of Rayman's Axe-wielding attacks has him fly with his helicopter hair and slam the ground with the axe in a similar manner to how Barbara and her relatives perform the crush attack.
• One of Rayman's attacks with the Gauntlets has him wind up his telescopic fist and punch forward or upwards in an identical manner to how he uses charged attacks in Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends.
• Another one of Rayman's Gauntlet attacks has him fly with his helicopter hair and strike enemies with three Flying Punches. When he does this, he performs the same string of three aerial attacks that he can perform while airborne in Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, and their spin-offs.
  • While wearing the Super Metal Rayman skin, the Flying Punches take their fiery, charged appearance from Rayman Legends.

Trivia

• A forest dragon was planned to appear as a sidekick in the Rayman event, appearing in the game files only once and before the actual event, in Patch 3.31, but was never used. It would later return for the "Epic Rayman" event on Patch 9.11, under the name "Forest Dragon".
