Barbara is a recurring playable character in the Rayman series, making her debut in Rayman Legends. She is the former princess of Teensies In Trouble and the first of ten princesses that Rayman and his friends must rescue in that game. She returns as a starting playable character in Rayman Adventures, Rayman Mini, and Rayman: The Board Game.

Description

Barbara is a young barbarian girl who becomes Rayman's travel companion. Unlike most other female characters in the Rayman series, Barbara is a human. In Rayman Legends, she wears a winged helmet, a green outfit consisting of a boobtube, skirt and trousers, tan-coloured furry boots, and a brown belt with a skull attached to it. She also has long, curly red hair, with two parts of it tied into ponytails at each side of her head, has one of her teeth missing, and a large scar across her face. Also unlike most characters in the Rayman series, she carries a weapon - a double edged battle axe which she wields to dispatch enemies, but can also use as a board to slide on surfaces.

In Rayman Adventures, Barbara is seen sporting a new look. The changes include changing her helmet with a hat accompanied with mechanical wings and goggles, having shorter, lighter hair, a teal crop top, different arm guards, a brown skirt with a belt and a compass buckle, brown pants, and different boots. Barbara also replaces her axe with a shovel. Players could change her outfit to her original one from Rayman Legends, called "Classic Barbara" in this game.

Role in the games

Rayman Legends

This small barbarian princess is a strong and fierce warrior. No one wields an axe quite like her: she can even glide along on it!
—In-game description, Rayman Legends

In Rayman Legends, Barbara is first encountered in a room in the Teensies In Trouble gallery in which Dungeon Dash is encountered. Once this level is cleared, she will be rescued and become playable, thus joining the heroes.

Barbara was first seen for a brief moment in a leaked trailer for the game that was discovered in April 2012, more than a month before the game was officially revealed at E3 in June 2012. A trailer introducing her was released in August 2012. At E3 in June 2013, Barbara makes an appearance in a CGI trailer for Rayman Legends made exclusively for the event, in which she rescues Rayman from the clutches of the Armored Toad.

Rayman Adventures

This small barbarian princess is a strong and fierce warrior. No one wields an axe quite like her!
—In-game description, Rayman Adventures, Rayman Mini

In Rayman Adventures, Barbara's classic outfit could be purchased for 500 gems.

This adventurer is the definition of girl power. She may have been a princess in the past, but she's long since abandoned her sheltered life for one full of danger and excitement. She's not afraid to get her hands, or her outfit, dirty when needed.
—In-game description, Rayman Adventures, Rayman Mini

Her new adventurer outfit was unlocked by default.

Rayman Mini

In Rayman Mini, Barbara is available as a default playable character. Her adventurer outfit can be unlocked for 8 Swag Coins.

Rayman in the Phantom Show

While Barbara does not appear in Rayman in the Phantom Show, the third DLC of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, replicas of her winged helmet, her hair, and her axe can be found in the Repository.

Rayman: The Board Game

Barbara is set to appear as a playable character in Rayman: The Board Game. An alternate, Kickstarter-exclusive figure of Barbara attacking in mid-air was also revealed as the ninth lucky ticket and will be included with all pledges that have a copy of the base game.

In other games

Brawlhalla

A strong barbarian princess - no one wields an axe quite like her!
—In-game description, Brawlhalla

In the fighting game Brawlhalla, the Rayman Update patch added numerous skins, items, and effects to the game. One of these skins was Barbara for the character Brynn. She is considered an "Epic Crossover Skin," just like Globox. Like with all Epic Crossover Skins, Barbara comes with signature FX swaps, Legend Name and icon swaps, custom Lock-In animation, and two weapon skins which include her signature axe and Aurora's sword which is now a spear. Barbara can be purchased for 300 Mammoth Coins.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

If there's one thing every princess needs to complete her ensemble, it’s her favorite battle-axe! Barbara is no average damsel in distress, but even a battle-axe doesn’t make you invincible. She needs a little help from Rayman after being kidnapped, but she ends up being a lifesaver when she joins him after that!
—Trophy's description, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Barbara appears as a collectible trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U along with Rayman and Globox.
