When Moskito is first encountered, he chases Rayman with a giant spiky fruit. During the battle, he attacks Rayman by trying to poke him with his proboscis and uses spiky fruits of various sizes to attack. With precise timing, it is possible to hit him twice per turn, before he flies up and away after the first hit.
It is thought that all instances in which Moskito shares Bzzit's colouration are mistakes or problem arising from hardware limitations; Moskito's ‘true’ colour is believed to be red, not purple. The versions of the game in which Moskito appears to have Bzzit's colours (PC, Sega Saturn, and PlayStation only during the pursuit) have led to great confusion and debate amongst players regarding the identities of the two mosquitoes. The versions of the game where the colours were displayed correctly were during Moskito's battle in the PlayStation and both in the pursuit and Moskito's battle in the Atari Jaguar.
In the PC and Sega Saturn versions of the game, Moskito has different colours; instead of being mostly red with pink gloves, and a grey proboscis, shoes and stripes, he appears with a purple skin with yellow stripes, shoes and proboscis, and white gloves and wings, like Bzzit. Another difference is that the berries he uses are different colours instead of all being the same colour. Whilst Rayman is getting chased by Moskito with the giant spiky fruit when he is first encountered (All versions except Atari Jaguar), and in the battle against Mr Dark, when the latter transforms into a hybrid of Moskito, Mr Sax and Space Mama, his colours are the same as Bzzit.
In Rayman Origins, up to four friendly mosquitoes appear, and can be ridden by the player characters in the game's sidescrolling shooter levels. In this game, they are referred to as 'Moskitoes', but it is not clear which (if any) of them are the original Moskito from the original Rayman.
