Unlike the Spiky fruit that had featured in previous instalments, the Spiky fruit in this game is not naturally occurring. It is in fact a collection of fruit sewn together with a spiked cloth enclosure. Spiky fruit can be found either static or swinging.

Prickly fruits, also known as spiky fruits, are dangerous items found in various entries of the Rayman series.

In Rayman and its spin-offs

In the original Rayman game, prickly fruits exist in various sizes and are either all coloured red (in the PC version and its ports) or featured in a variety of colours (in the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar versions).

The most common type is a small fruit that falls when Rayman passes under it and hurts him if not dodged. They freely grow in the Dream Forest and can be found on rockers, but are also used by Moskito to attack Rayman. In the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar versions, they are orange, except those on rockers, which are red as in the other versions.

A bigger type, about as large as Rayman, is thrown at him by Moskito. They are red in all versions, including the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar ones.

The last type is almost of the size of the whole screen, and is used by Moskito to attack Rayman too. However, he never throws them, but only carries them with difficulty to hurt him with them. Before the battle, Rayman is pursued by Moskito carrying one of those fruits, and he must rush to the exit sign. During the boss battle, Rayman only needs to duck to avoid them. In the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar versions, they are purple, just like plums.

In Rayman Designer

In Rayman Designer, prickly fruits appear as Jungle world-exclusive enemy events and come in two types: Swinging prickly fruit and Falling fruit.

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman, small, red prickly fruits are found in Spellbound Forest, Rainy Forest, Ancient Forest, Arcane Forest and Dark Legacy. Most of them are attached to vines or walls, and drop when Rayman passes beneath them. Some also appear on rockers.

In Arcane Forest, carnivorous plants with the appearance of red prickly fruits with eyes can be found. They attack Rayman with headbutts, and take three hits to defeat.

In Rayman 3

In Rayman 3, prickly fruits appear as obstacles in the minigame 2D Madness. Some are attached to rockers, while others are carried by giant mosquitoes.

In Rayman Origins

Prickly fruits were featured in the E3 2010 trailer of Rayman Origins. However, they do not make an appearance in the final product and thus were clearly scrapped at some point in development.
