The Back to Origins painting as it appears in the Main Gallery
A new Back to Origins painting getting unlocked

Back to Origins is a world of paintings in Rayman Legends which features levels from Rayman Origins. Each level has had various changes made in terms of level design and graphics. Not all levels are included, and the ones which are have had all story elements removed from them. The levels are unlocked through lucky tickets, though will still need to be played in order in each of the worlds.

Levels are split into 5 worlds, each having the name of a corresponding world from Rayman Origins: Jibberish Jungle, Desert of Dijiridoos, Gourmand Land, Sea of Serendipity, and Mystical Pique. Each world features 8 levels from a pair of similar themed Rayman Origins worlds: for example, Jibberish Jungle features levels from both Jibberish Jungle and Ticklish Temples. Mystical Pique features levels from Moody Clouds as it does not have a correspondingly themed second world.

There is a pattern to what levels are included: each world features 4 normal levels (2 from each of the two worlds featured), both Moskito riding levels, the second Tricky Treasure level, and the boss level. Levels are not always featured in the same order that they were encountered in Rayman Origins: for example, Freaking Flipper is played before Swimming with Stars. The boss featured in Mystical Pique is from the Land of the Livid Dead, given that the Moody Clouds boss stage is omitted.

List of changes

  • Some level names have changed slightly.
  • Lum Kings, spiky platforms, Skull Teeth, Electoon cages, the Magician's hats and time trials have been removed.
  • Turnips, Teensies (which replace many of the Skull Coin locations), purple Lum chains and several enemies have been added.
  • Enemies no longer bubblize.
  • Many textures on objects and enemies have been slightly redesigned.
  • A majority of the levels have had their layout tweaked to be easier, most notably the Tricky Treasure and mosquito riding stages.
  • The Tricky Treasure no longer has an eye. A Teensie is also trapped within the treasure.
  • The lightning has been improved.
  • The nymphs do not appear at all.
  • All enemies now have animations of themselves being tickled that are not able to be viewed without the Murphy reset glitch on a console with a touchscreen or hacking.
  • Some levels have had many foreground objects removed to make them easier to see.
  • Some levels have been removed.
  • The music no longer changes once the enemies have been defeated in an area with a cage. The only time the cage freed song from Rayman Origins can be heard is at the end of Moskito levels.
  • When entering a secret area with a Mosquito the music stops to ensure the current music doesn't override the Mosquito riding music.
