Mawpaws, also known as Bonton and Flabar, are creatures which resemble kangaroos or goats. They have brown or blue fur (blue in the Xowar secret). Some have horns. The Teensie tribe known as the Sylkins tend the Mawpaws for their wool and milk, and some Sylkins are seen shepherding them in the Rayman 3 intro sequence.

Mawpaws are a strange type of creature encountered several times throughout Rayman 3. They loosely resemble a plesiosaur, except that they have hand-shaped heads, and they are capable of flight.
The Mawpaws are harvested by the Black Lums, who use their wool to weave Hoodlum outfits for themselves. At one point in Rayman 3, the Black Lums are seen attacking a Mawpaw like a swarm of locusts in order to steal its fur. However, the instruction manual has stated that the Black Lums just use animal fur in general. The Snorty was also dressed in animal hide, which could have been Flabar fur.

In addition to frequenting the skies above the marshes, Mawpaws are also known to live in the ocean; if Rayman falls overboard the ship in the first phase of the Summit Beyond the Clouds, a Mawpaw picks him out of the water and puts him back on board.

An in-game model for the Mawpaw was created, but when the creature was cut from Rayman 3, the developers decided to hide a blue, horned Mawpaw in a secret room so that their work would not entirely go to waste. The room also contains other unused models, such as the Xowar and a Glute.

The Mawpaw was initially intended to play a much larger role in Rayman 3. The Mawpaw, known then as the Flabar, served to introduce "puzzle" elements. Depending on its various physical attributes (horns, wings, trunk, very thick fur, etc.), the Mawpaw had the very precise function of unblocking the player in the level. For example, Rayman could make the horned Mawpaws charge to ram down certain doors, or fly on the backs of the winged ones to reach otherwise inaccessible places. But since the game design for this creature was unsatisfactory, in the end it was used only to supply the Hoodlums with raw material to make their clothing (as the introduction to the game shows).

[Mawpaws][1] are subterranean beasts with long necks. For some unknowable evolutionary reason, they have developed hands where their heads should be. In combat this means that an unloaded fist will be caught and hurled right back at you. An injured [Mawpaw][1] will often retreat underground, so be patient and resume attack when they return.

Mawpaws are a strange type of creature encountered several times throughout Rayman 3. They loosely resemble a plesiosaur, except that they have hand-shaped heads, and they are capable of flight.

One of them is seen for the first time emerging from a lake in the very first segment of the Fairy Council where Murfy has to carry Rayman to escape from the Hoodlums. In the Bog of Murk some Mawpaws are seen flying aimlessly through the air at the beginning of the level. Later, in the dungeon beneath Count Razoff's mansion, another Mawpaw can be found. It seems to have been imprisoned there by Razoff. This Mawpaw helpfully picks up Rayman and places him back in the battle if Rayman falls down into the pits of the dungeon (much to the ire of the imprisoned Globox, who would rather that his friend stay there with him).

In addition to frequenting the skies above the marshes, Mawpaws are also known to live in the ocean; if Rayman falls overboard the ship in the first phase of the Summit Beyond the Clouds, a Mawpaw picks him out of the water and puts him back on board.

 1. 1.0 1.1 While the original quote refers to the Muddibog and is displayed alongside an image of one, the description unequivocally fits the Mawpaw and it is therefore assumed to be an error on the editor's part.
