A rat is a small background creature, that appears in Rayman 3, Rayman Legends, and Rayman Adventures.

In Rayman 3

From infancy, the Rat was tortured by the Knaarens. He's a melancholy soul and he just loves it when folk remind him of his earliest days by beating the hell out of him.

Rats can usually be seen crawling along the ground in. Like turtles, they can be kicked by Rayman, sending them spinning though the air. They appear mostly in the Desert of the Knaaren, but one can also be found on the floor of the Fairy Council, and several others can be seen in Count Razoff's mansion in the Bog of Murk. As a result of their tormented upbringing under the Knaaren, rats appear to derive some form of masochistic pleasure from pain – when kicked by Rayman, they usually comment with perverse sentences.

At least one Knaaren has domesticated a pet rat; as Rayman is about to fall down the hole leading to the fight against Reflux, one Knaaren laments to another about his dead pet rat called Sally.

Rats also appear in Rayman Legends, but merely as background elements and unable to be interacted with.

In Rayman Legends and Rayman Adventures

Rats appear in Teensies in Trouble and Fiesta de los Muertos as scenery. In the Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch versions of Rayman Legends, rats can be defeated using Murfy in order to earn a few Lums.
