m In Rayman Jungle Run: FINALLY, the liana page is (mostly) in line with the French version. While the French page calls the zip lines lianas too, those seem to be ropes instead of plants, so I didn't include them.
Great job!

Lianas are recurring plants that appear in nearly every Rayman game. Although their appearance has evolved over time, their function has, more or less, remained the same.

In Rayman and its spin-offs

Lianas are first seen in the very first level of the original Rayman game, Pink Plant Woods. They are large beige vines with pink leaves that appear in the Dream Forest, where their primary purpose is to allow Rayman to climb them to reach higher areas to advance or find a specific item.

In the Atari Jaguar version, the leaves of the lianas are colourized differently. Instead of pink and purple, the leaves are dark pink and aqua with a small shade of purple.

In Rayman Junior, dangerous lianas with pinkish thorns appear. If Rayman tries to climb on these lianas, he will get hurt.

In Rayman 2

Lianas return in Rayman 2. They are less colorful and more realistic than in the previous game, and their functionality has been adapted to 3D; Rayman no longer needs to jump from vine to vine, as he can now climb smoothly along in any direction. They appear in forest-themed levels such as the Fairy Glade, the Walk of Life, and the Menhir Hills.

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman, lianas appear in nearly every world. They change color and shape in each level, but they have the same function as in the main games.

In Rayman M and Rayman Arena

Lianas appear in Rayman M and Rayman Arena, where they appear in the Spellbound Forest Battle location with an appearance identical to those of the lianas in Rayman 2.

In Rayman 2 Forever

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 2, lianas appear in the Fairy Glade.

In Rayman 3

In Rayman 3, lianas appear in the Fairy Council and the Longest Shortcut, with the same function as the ones in Rayman 2. The lianas in the Fairy Council have a fluorescent blue appearance and hang on the ceiling or walls, while the third section of the Longest Shortcut features walls covered with lianas.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, lianas covered with leaves and flowers appear in the Forgotten Forests. Rayman can move in all directions by climbing on one.

In the mobile phone version of Rayman 3

The mobile phone version of Rayman 3 features lianas in the game's forest levels, where their appearance and function is nearly identical to those in Rayman 3's Game Boy Advance adaptation.

In Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge

Green lianas appear in Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, where they are attached to rock walls. They appear in levels such as the Clearleaf Forest, Clearleaf Falls, and the Heart of the World.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, lianas appear in the Forest world. Their appearance and function is nearly identical to those in Rayman 3's Game Boy Advance adaptation.

In the UbiArt games

The lianas that appear in the Rayman games made with the UbiArt engine are covered with harmless trichomes and small shoots. Some lianas hang from ceilings and allow the heroes to cling and swing off of them to cross pits, avoid traps, and reach higher areas; others act as zip lines that allow the heroes to slide on them. Various other objects have the same characteristics as the lianas, such as ropes, electric cables, and chains.

In Rayman Origins

In Rayman Origins, lianas appear in the Jibberish Jungle, the Ticklish Temples, and Mystical Pique.

In Rayman Jungle Run

Lianas appear in the Jump, Fly, Punch, Pirate Ship, and Giant plant level packs in Rayman Jungle Run, where they have the same appearance and function as in Rayman Origins. Levels set in the Land of the Livid Dead also feature black lianas with the same function as the green ones.

In Rayman Legends

Lianas appear in the Teensies In Trouble, Toad Story, and Back to Origins worlds of Rayman Legends, where their appearance and function is the same as in Rayman Origins. A carnivorous variant of the liana also makes its debut in this game.

In Rayman Fiesta Run

In Rayman Fiesta Run, lianas appear in the level Leap of Faith, where they have the same appearance and function as in Rayman Origins.

In Rayman Adventures

Lianas appear in the Medieval Mayhem, Toad Story, and Wild, Wild East worlds of Rayman Adventures, where they have the same function and appearance as in Rayman Legends. The carnivorous variant also appears in this game.

Trivia

  • An unused dark blue variant of the liana can be found in the game files of Rayman Legends. They are covered in thorns and likely had the same function as the thorny lianas in Rayman Junior. It is unknown where they would have appeared and why they were removed from the final game.
